libertas83
So: yeah, you probably installed a third party plug-in that added support for those types, and they registered their appropriate Groups for use in WMP's file associations utilities. Your right, it was from a plugin I installed. I got a little excited as I didn't expect to see that there. Ambroos
Zachdms, what do you mean with "that dialog"? I don't really get it... Sorry, forgot to read a post. I also had only the standard formats (http://ambroos.vaes.googlepages.com/wmp11) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/456726-wmp-11-in-windows-xp/page/7/#findComment-587501757 Share on other sites
Ambroos
Even after applying instructions of post above loads of people have some "Version error". There's also a workaround for that, but not any WGA workaround is allowed here, so i think post above will be deleted. No workarounds or whatever else on neowin please! Xab
Even after applying instructions of post above loads of people have some "Version error". There's also a workaround for that, but not any WGA workaround is allowed here, so i think post above will be deleted. No workarounds or whatever else on neowin please! As I said, there are legitimate non-piracy reasons to not wish to participate in WGA. Also, if you are getting the error that says "Media player version is 11.x.x.x when 10.0.0.x was expected" you need to completely go into Add/Remote Windows Components and uninstall Windows Media Player, then restart your PC. Once Windows Media Player is completely removed, follow my instructions above and it will work. That problem happens when you attempt to install over WMP10. Ambroos
Well there's something else which is faster than the uninstall trick, but i'm already warn so i won't post anything like that again (and i won't PM it!) Preppy Veteran Posted May 12, 2006 Veteran Share Posted May 12, 2006 This is happening because that's very much not a valid install scenario. Your system is totally baffled right now. Xab: Those instructions are awful. If you need to reset the version warning, just run "c:\windows\inf\unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMP". But your system is totally farked anyways using your method (to quote Dan, "He's going to have serious problems"). Can we please keep the thread clear of fake installs? Unless you run through the normal setup exe, your install is not going to be working fully correctly. You may be able to cobble together a half-assed install (and you get an F for the current hack), but it's fundamentally useless as a method for test or evaluation of this non-beta pre-prerelease version of WMP. Even screenshots from "fake" systems are kind of purposeless, since your fundamentally not getting the same experience as an actual install. Which I thought would have been obvious... =\ Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/456726-wmp-11-in-windows-xp/page/7/#findComment-587501926 Share on other sites

.Neo
Gotta love how Microsoft made WMP 11 just blend in with Windows XP's interface. The player itself is pretty nice tho. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/456726-wmp-11-in-windows-xp/page/7/#findComment-587501936 Share on other sites
Preppy Veteran Posted May 12, 2006 Veteran Share Posted May 12, 2006 (edited) Well my install is an actual install, i got the error with the DLL during the installation... No, it's absolutely 100% not a valid install. I've explicitly warned our beta team against installs like yours - happily enough, they're trivial to detect. I could point out three major failures areas you'll hit already without looking further at your system. I'll let you find those - I don't really feel like getting into WMP11 until the beta version hits the streets (and again, this is NOT it). Your system is not remotely valid, and most everybody I know was amazed it was vaguely functional. Please keep the "WGA Circumvention" installs out of the thread. They're simply not valid and aren't going to work right. :( @ Xab: Uninstalling and reinstalling WMP as a solution is something I've asked people to get away from for years now. Please don't start that chain up again. I write the installer. It's optimized to better handle reinstalling on top of itself. If you uninstall first, you're going to bypass extra logic I put in there to handle trouble-shooting. And (ignoring the fact that that install is not the beta install) your system is actually not correct and not valid. Sorry. I know you'll run into problems if you use your hacked version extensively, and all I can say is to actually install the player instead of trying to outsmart it. Corris Veteran Posted May 12, 2006 Veteran Share Posted May 12, 2006 (edited) i might of missed the question, and possibly the answer, but how do you change the language of WMP11 so i can use URGE and such like possibly in the simplist way you could put it too please Edit:: Never mind, figured it out :D anyway, how do i combine albums and such like another problem is with changing the album year, i put in 2004 and hit enter and it changes to 2003, then i do the same with 2003 and it comes up as 2002, oh so very confusing but besides that, its oh so very awesome Edited May 12, 2006 by Corris Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/456726-wmp-11-in-windows-xp/page/7/#findComment-587501968 Share on other sites
Robbie Ride
Actually mate i have no flaws in my system, no flaws in the software i have submitted (Link Supplied for this) My system is secure and always has been so there is no 3 things i need to look at and to be honest there is no WGA circumvension in this install and if u have DLL errors then its with your system and not mine. But thanks **Update** my system is valid and always has been since the software was bought last year but then again you wouldn't know this would you, the software installs without any errors and has been installed straight away after download, the file hasnt been changed by myself, its free from Microsoft no key required and no money changes hands. GameMaster90
Well, I've installed it myself, and I find it's a vast improvement over WMP 10. But I do agree that it does need some cleaning up, for example the vast repition of menus, though there is this one thing that is bothering me, I can no longer drag-and-drop albums to combine them. I miss that from WMP10. :( Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/456726-wmp-11-in-windows-xp/page/7/#findComment-587502028 Share on other sites
