PS3 Media Server

Recommended Posts

Just tried this for the first time tonight and i have to admit i am very impressed.

The only thing i dont like is the extra folders that it creates along with my shared folders. i.e. Web, Media Libary and Video Settings.

Can these be removed ?

Under the "Navigation/Share Settings" tab you can tick the "Hide #Video Settings# Folder" which will get rid of the Video Settings, not sure about the rest though.

(Try un-ticking "Enable the media library"?)

I'm having stuttering issues even when I am connected directly to my router. Only xvid tv shows work great, I just encoded my Seinfeld library to h.264 and I am having stuttering problems, file size is 240mb per episode. I shouldn't be having problems. I'm running a C2Duo at 3.7ghz, and 4gb RAM, I think I am more than capable of transcoding, but none the less, I can't watch any 1080p mkv's or my sd Seinfeld episodes.

Anyone have any insight on the advanced transcoding options, ie. kekeyint=50:vqscale=3 etc.?

Are you using 1.03?

If so make sure you've turned on "Enhanced multicore support for H264 HD content".

If it's still struggling you could always convert the video files to PS3 compatible ones and just stream them, instead of transcoding on the fly - http://www.3r1c.eu/mkv2vob/beta/243b2/mkv2vob.exe

Very odd, that option is grayed out.. And yes, I have 1.03. I also have my bandwith limited to 15mbps, and audio set to 2 channels at 160kbps. Still having issues.

v1.04

Hi,

here's the new version!... some explanations about the new "video copy" feature: in previous versions, you couldn't copy any transcoded videos on your ps3, due to a virtual size of 94gb... now it's possible, with this option enabled. Be careful: if you want to use that feature, it's recommended to set a reasonable bandwidth limit in transcode options, because transcoded videos will have no fixed size, and you could fill up your ps3's hard drive pretty quickly with default settings !

For those who are using the terrific PS3MS. I made a cover template for the HD ripped movies here: PSD for PS3MS cover

You should have no problem adding your thumbnail images into the framework and exporting as PNG. Your final image should look like this:

or you can have it looking like this:

This is how it looks like on PS3:

Damn that looks sexy (Y) Boz doing something nice for PS3 owners :o ;)

HOW do I install this "template" ?

If you mean how to get it displaying on the PS3, create your image in Photoshop, then save it as folder.jpg in the folder where the movie is. PMS will automatically pick it up and apply it to the file thumbnail on the PS3.

My suggestion is to export from Photoshop as PNG as it has transparent background so it will go nice with your PS3 theme. If you save as JPG it will have white background. If you don't have Photoshop you can download Photoshop Elements 7 Trial from Adobe. You'll have 30 days and you can do anything as with full version.

As noted folder.jpg is one way if you have your movies organized in folder per movie.

Another way is to name your file the same name but with .cover.png at the end.

So let's say your filename is:

LaraCroft_TombRaider.mkv

your cover art would be:

LaraCroft_TombRaider.mkv.cover.png

Some people have reported problems with spaces in the name but I had no such issues, so I think it's something to do with applications installed.

Also, don't forget to enable Thumbnail generation or something similar in PS3MS settings.

Pretty damn nice work Boz :) (Y)

Will be using this going forward I think. I'm not at home at the moment so can't remember, can we keep the thumbnails when not going via the Media Server so for those already on the hard drive rather than the 15 second preview?

DVD version is added too:

    • No, "a great deal" for 32GB of DDR5 is $50, not $350. I mean I see what you mean, that it's a decent price compared to what's currently available, but you really should put a disclaimer in this articles explaining that it's still multiple times more expensive than it used to be.
    • Linux 7.1 stable launch looms as Linus Torvalds releases the final release candidate by Paul Hill Linus Torvalds has just released what’s expected to be the final release candidate of Linux 7.1, rc7. The Linux founder said that this RC is not small, but smaller than recent releases, which is a good sign because he expects the stable version to drop next week if things continue on this trajectory. Linux kernels see a merge window for the first two weeks of their life, where developers add new features, then there are about seven or eight weeks of release candidates before the stable version. Typically, there are seven release candidates, but if more time is needed, then an eighth release candidate is released too. This week’s RC’s biggest area of fixes was for GPUs, with networking just behind. Torvalds said that the rest of the release was “pretty random and spread out” with some architecture fixes, driver fixes, filesystem improvements, and build fixes for more unusual configs. In terms of specific pieces of hardware receiving improvements in this update, we had more AMD Zen6 models supported and fixes for AMD SDMA 7.1 and GFX11. Hardware that got improvements includes Lenovo laptops, HONOR laptops, and MSI laptops. Here are the changelogs for those: ASoC: amd: acp: Add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15ASH11 Input: atkbd - add DMI quirk for Lenovo Yoga Air 14 (83QK) Input: atkbd - skip deactivate for HONOR BCC-N's internal keyboard ASoC: amd: yc: Add MSI Raider A18 HX A9WJG to quirk table ASoC: amd: yc: Enable internal mic on MSI Bravo 17 C7VF When the stable Linux 7.1 is released, it will be up to distribution maintainers, such as Canonical and Red Hat, to release the update to their users via the update manager. Some versions of Linux will get it before others, and some will never get it at all. Fedora and Arch-based distros will be among the first to get it, though. If you don’t get it, the security fixes will be backported to your system’s kernel, so you won’t be at risk, but you won’t get newer hardware support, which is fine if your computer works now.
