2010 Summer Football Transfers

Javier Hernandez's father has admitted he cannot rule out the possibility of the Manchester United striker going out on loan this season, with Valencia understood to be interested.

The Red Devils agreed a deal to sign the Mexico international back in April, which looks an increasingly astute piece of business after he shone at the World Cup.

Hernandez has been granted a work permit and is set to link up with his new team-mates at Old Trafford later this month, but speculation has now surfaced that he could be sent out on loan.

It is not clear how regularly Hernandez would play for United this term considering the other attacking resources at Sir Alex Ferguson's disposal, especially as he has never played in Europe before and is still not the finished article at the age of 22.

Valencia are known to be on the lookout for new forwards after being forced to sell some of their prized assets, including David Villa, David Silva and Nikola Zigic.

Reports suggest they are keen to sort out a loan deal for Hernandez and his father, also named Javier, does not believe it is an idea that can be dismissed lightly.

"This could be a positive solution for the adaptation of Javier into European football," the youngster's father told Televisa.

"Contacts exist but Manchester have still not decided anything about the subject.

"Javier's first season in England will not be easy. Perhaps the loan option is not madness."

everything i have been reading today and yesterday is just ridiculous in regards to torres. These are the headlines from my google reader(in the exact order i am receiving them in)

Torres happy with Hodgson - Fernando Torres will put talks with new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson about his future on hold until after the World Cup.

Jul 4, 2010

so what the hell is he doing then? I hate the british media...

Fernando Torres' agent has denied making the comments published in the English press on Monday regarding the striker's future at Liverpool.

Agent Jose Antonio Martin reportedly refused to commit the Spain forward's long-term future to Anfield and indicated he could move to another Premier League club.

But Martin insists he did not make the remarks and is adamant 26-year-old Torres, who is contracted at Liverpool until 2013, will remain with the Reds.

"For many months I have not spoken to the England press because their quotes are totally false," said Martin.

"Now is not the moment to speak about this issue because Torres is focused completely on his work for Spain.

"After the World Cup (player-agency company) Bahia Internacional will possibly meet with the player but the truth is that Fernando has signed a deal with Liverpool which is for the present and the future."

It was also rumoured that Torres was set for a make-or-break meeting with Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson in the coming days to discuss his future, but Bahia Internacional sources have dismissed this claim as "simple speculation".

Barcelona defender Dmytro Chygrynskiy has sealed a 15million euros (?12.44m) return to Shakhtar Donetsk. - quite surprised at that

The 23-year-old centre-back has signed a five-year deal with the 2009 Uefa Cup winners after spending just one season with the Catalans, playing 14 times.

Chygrynskiy was the first Ukrainian to play for Barcelona after the Catalans paid 25million euros (?20.72m) for him in August 2009.

Mircea Lucescu, Shaktar's coach, confirmed the deal on RAC1, saying: "Yes. We have an agreement with Barcelona and we're very happy because Dmytro is back and he will help us to become a better team.

"We will pay a big transfer fee but it's normal because Barcelona paid 25 million euros for him, he's young and he had an important contract with Barcelona.

"The important thing now is that he recovers his fitness playing every weekend."

Barcelona confirmed the deal on their website, adding: "The money received for the central defender will help ease the club's short-term liquidity problems."

These will have also been eased by the recent sale of Yaya Toure to Manchester City in a ?27.5million (33m euros) switch.

This from Mario Balotelli's agent:

"Mario is relaxed and tranquil. His situation is very clear," Raiola told Gr Parlamento. "In the world, there are players that are not for sale.

"The offer from City is a reality, but I do not need to say it. He will stay at Inter.

"There will be no negotiation process."

It's like they want to sign everyone..

They have to start spending big now before UEFA implements new regulations limiting how much clubs can spend on transfers within a period. ?Its something like 45 Million Euros over a 3 year period. ? At current rates that's about 37 Million Pounds, no idea how UEFA will handle the exchange rates....

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has confirmed that Manchester United are interested in midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

The 26-year-old Holland international has been linked with a move to the Premier League side following an impressive World Cup.

Sneijder, whose Inter contract expires in 2013, has fired the Dutch to the final in South Africa and will be hoping the Oranje can go all the way for the first time in their history.

He also had a great domestic campaign with the Nerazzurri last term, as under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho Inter won a remarkable treble, which included the UEFA Champions League title.

Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is now in charge at the San Siro following Mourinho's departure to Real Madrid, and the Spaniard will not want to lose one of his prize assets.

But Moratti has confirmed the Red Devils are hot on his trail, even if Inter do not want to sell.

"The interest from Manchester United in Sneijder is real, but I didn't look into it in an attempt not to fall into temptation," Moratti told Sky Sport Italia.

"I'm following him at the World Cup and I think I'll do the same also at Inter for the next years."

However, Sneijder, formerly of Ajax and Real Madrid, is ready to commit his future to the club until 2015, according to his agent Soren Lerby.

Lerby told De Telegraaf: "Wesley could stay at Inter until 2015. After the World Cup, we will go to Milan, we will sit around a table with the officials.

Everton midfielder Dan Gosling has left the club and is available on a free transfer after a contract error.

The Premier League were asked to make a ruling after the England Under 21 prospect was not given a new contract offer in writing.

Everton claimed they offered Gosling a new deal verbally, but nothing was sent to him in writing by the due date.

The Premier League have now ruled Gosling is free to move on as Everton did not make a written contract offer.

As revealed by skysports.com last week Newcastle are leading the chase for the versatile star, with Sunderland and West Ham also in the hunt for Gosling's signature.

Gosling will miss the start of the new season as he is currently recovering from a serious knee injury, but it seems he will be at a new club next term.

Ha ha typical Everton

good old West Ham going after another crocked player

supposedly I read today Sullivan had agreed a deal with Klose before the World Cup but now he's had many more lucrative offers...I smell BS

I'd hate to see Sneijder at ManU.

So Fergie wants one of Rafa's guys? Somehow I don't see Rafa selling his top guy to Fergie.. rofl.gif

What do the Liverpool posse think? laugh.gif

I don't know abt Gosling being crocked TBH Rappy.. he can turn out to be an ace in the hole like Vermaelen did last season.. I wish Arsenal would sign him and play him when Clichy or Sagna are out of form/injured/resting.. Gosling and Rodwell were two of the best youngsters outside Arsenal :p

well he's recovering from a knee injury which kept him out last season and he's still not fully fit so it will take time to get him back so yeah he's crocked and will be a waste of time.

Manchester United have joined Manchester City in the race to sign Inter Milan forward Mario Balotelli, according to the Serie A giants.

The talented but temperamental teenager has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer with City reported to have had an initial offer rejected.

Inter president Massimo Moratti insisted earlier this week that Balotelli would remain at Giuseppe Meazza under new manager Rafa Benitez.

Technical director Marco Branca backed the stance of the Nerazzurri supremo, but revealed that the interest from former Inter boss Roberto Mancini was being matched from across Manchester.

Branca is quoted in The Sun as saying: "We are fortunate to have good players so it's normal big teams in Europe are thinking about them.

"There is interest from Manchester United and from Manchester City in Balotelli.

"But it is very early to say if there will be any business done.

"Inter are in first position and we have to think about our future."

Jovanovic pens three-year deal

Liverpool Football Club today confirmed the signing of Serbia international Milan Jovanovic.

The 29-year-old forward was one of Serbia's star performers at the World Cup, scoring the winner in a shock win over Germany. He penned a three-year deal at Melwood today before meeting some of his new teammates.

He said: "It is an honour for me to sign for one of the biggest clubs in football.

"I cannot wait to start working with the manager and I'm looking forward to joining up with my new teammates on our Swiss training camp."

Jovanovic spent the previous four years at Standard Liege, where he won Belgian Footballer of the Year in 2008 and the Golden Shoe in 2009.

    • An actual cosmic "Eye of Sauron" had been looking straight at us all along by Sayan Sen Image by Kovin P. Vasquez via Pexels | Not representative An international team of researchers has solved a long-standing mystery surrounding a distant blazar known as PKS 1424+240, helping explain why it produces some of the brightest high-energy gamma rays and cosmic neutrinos ever observed despite appearing to have a relatively slow-moving jet. The findings were published on June 6 in Astronomy & Astrophysics Letters. The study addresses a broader challenge in astrophysics: understanding how extreme cosmic objects accelerate particles to very high energies and produce very high-energy (VHE) photons and neutrinos. PKS 1424+240 is located billions of light-years from Earth. It has attracted attention for years because it is both a powerful source of VHE gamma rays and the brightest known neutrino-emitting blazar in the sky, according to observations by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. It is also associated with one of the strongest peaks in IceCube's nine-year neutrino sky map A blazar is a type of active galactic nucleus powered by a supermassive black hole that pulls in surrounding matter and launches jets of plasma moving close to the speed of light. What makes blazars unique is their orientation. One of their jets points almost directly toward Earth, making them appear exceptionally bright across the electromagnetic spectrum and allowing scientists to study some of the most extreme physical processes in the Universe. The scientists exclaimed it's like the 'Eye of Sauron' in deep space. Usually, the brightest gamma-ray-emitting blazars are expected to have jets that appear to move very quickly. However, radio observations of PKS 1424+240 suggested that its jet was moving much more slowly, creating a contradiction that became part of a long-running problem known as the "Doppler factor crisis." To investigate, researchers analyzed 15 years of observations from the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), a network of 10 radio antennas spread across the continental United States, Hawaii and St. Croix. Using a technique called Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), astronomers combine signals from widely separated radio telescopes to create a virtual Earth-sized telescope capable of revealing extremely fine details. The team combined 42 polarization-sensitive radio images collected between 2009 and 2025, creating a much deeper and more detailed view of the jet than had previously been possible. The observations were carried out as part of MOJAVE (Monitoring Of Jets in Active galactic nuclei with VLBA Experiments), a long-running program that studies the brightness, polarization and magnetic field structures of jets produced by active galaxies. The project aims to better understand how activity near supermassive black holes is linked to high-energy radiation and neutrino emission. “When we reconstructed the image, it looked absolutely stunning,” said Yuri Kovalev, lead author of the study and Principal Investigator of the European Research Council-funded MuSES project at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “We have never seen anything quite like it — a near-perfect toroidal magnetic field with a jet, pointing straight at us.” The image revealed an unusual geometry. The researchers found that Earth lies almost directly in line with the jet, with a viewing angle of less than 0.6 degrees. In simple terms, astronomers are looking almost straight down the jet. This turned out to be the key to the mystery. Because the jet is aimed almost directly at Earth, a relativistic effect called Doppler boosting dramatically increases its apparent brightness. The study found that this effect boosts the emission by a factor of about 30 while also making the jet appear slower than it actually is. “This alignment causes a boost in brightness by a factor of 30 or more,” said Jack Livingston, a co-author at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “At the same time, the jet appears to move slowly due to projection effects — a classic optical illusion.” The nearly head-on view also gave scientists a rare look at the jet's magnetic field. Using polarized radio signals, they detected a clear toroidal, or doughnut-shaped, magnetic field component. The observations suggest the jet carries an electric current and that its magnetic field helps launch, shape and stabilize the flow of plasma. Researchers believe this magnetic structure may also play a key role in accelerating particles to energies high enough to produce both gamma rays and neutrinos. “Solving this puzzle confirms that active galactic nuclei with supermassive black holes are not only powerful accelerators of electrons, but also of protons — the origin of the observed high-energy neutrinos,” Kovalev said. The research was conducted under the MuSES (Multi-messenger Studies of Energetic Sources) project, which investigates how active galactic nuclei accelerate particles and generate different cosmic signals, including light and neutrinos. Scientists say understanding how protons are accelerated and linked to neutrino production remains one of the major unanswered questions in astrophysics. The findings help explain why some blazars can appear to have slow jets while still producing extremely bright high-energy emissions. More broadly, the study strengthens the link between relativistic jets, magnetic fields, gamma rays and high-energy neutrinos. Researchers say the results provide new clues about how some of the Universe's most powerful natural particle accelerators work and offer important insights for multimessenger astronomy, which combines different types of cosmic signals to study extreme events in space.
