Just downloaded the BluRay version of the Zeta series and now I want a Rick Dias.

Tell me +Jamushroom, you told me before that you wouldn't agree with having the MSG, Z, ZZ and the rest of UC having the same design quality as Unicorn due to the love for the original, right?  :)

@Razorwing: I'm sure it would be an extra part that you'd have to buy, much like with the RG Destiny Gundam. Also, it was Victory 2 Gundam which had that "Wings of Light" effect because of the huge "V" on the mobile suit.

@Mr.XXIV: I'm not sure if I understand you. Could you explain what you mean?

The fact that Unicorn has the same character art, audio and whatnot as the original series, is why I love Unicorn because it stays true to it's roots even though it's a OVA that's being made years after the last UC series. If it didn't look like the previous UC material, then the UC vibe wouldn't be there in the OVA.

Though, I believe that someone mentioned that they should do a remake of Zeta or the original series so that it had the same quality as Unicorn Gundam, something like that. And that was something that I disagree with because it would ruin the vibe that the original series have. It's like the animation evolved along with the Gundam technology. The old animation work of the original series adds to the fact that they were still at the start of mobile suit development. In Zeta they've advanced with mobile suit technology and the series also feels newer because of the newer animation work. So the quality of the series just adds to the vibe that's in the series. Remaking a classic series like that would just ruin that for that series because they can't possibly recapture that.

I mean, of course it would look awesome and all that, but it just wouldn't be the same. It wouldn't have that same vibe as the original versions have.

Hopefully I explained myself well enough to be understood. It's almost midnight so my mind is a bit tired, haha.

Haha, that's basically what I wanted to know right there, you were on point, no worries.

I'm also a person who would love to see the updated versions. Imagine, 30 minute anime's turned into an hour and you get so much more knowledge into the plots, the characters and the mobile suits that you just find so much love for the detail, not just the love of the story, but for the traditions they carry out in the show.

Then watch "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: A New Translation" because that's as far as you'll get to an updated version of Zeta Gundam. And to be honest, I didn't say I'm someone who'd love to see the updated versions. What I said in my previous post actually opposes the idea of updating the original series. What they're doing with Gundam Unicorn works for the newer stories but they should keep it at that. They should do that anything like that with the original series. And I wouldn't say you get much more knowledge into the plot and characters because there are only 7 episodes for Gundam Unicorn. That's the reason why they're 'compressing' the original story a bit in order to make it all fit and having it all make sense. Doing something like that with "Mobile Suit Gundam" or "Zeta Gundam" would destroy the stories and whatnot.

Turning anime episodes into an hour long episode wouldn't be the same as watching an anime of 30 minutes either, they're 30 minutes for a reason. Also imagine how long you'd have to wait to finish as series like "Zeta Gundam" if they made that series out of several 1 hour episodes. It would take take them 13 years to finish that series. 50 episodes divided by 2 (each episode being 30 minutes so 2 episodes would be an hour) and that divided by 2 again (2 episodes a year like Gundam Unicorn) is 13 years. 25 divided by 2 is 12,5 so that 13th year would be for the last episode. That would be stupid as hell, lol.

Also, 30 minute anime episodes gives them more room to work on character development and plot development if you ask me. That's why Gundam series often are 50 episodes long. Gundam 00 had much details in it for a modern anime show, but they simplified it all with Gundam AGE which is a shame. Though I'm 100% sure that they'll redeem themselves with "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin" next year.

Stuff like "Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam: A New Translation" is merely for fans who have seen the series anyways. They compressed the 50 episodes into 3 film averaging around 95 minutes per film. Loads of stuff from the series is missing which is very noticeable. They jump from one part of the series to the next and sometimes that ruins the flow of the films. The newly added scenes look awesome though. It would've been awesome if they used that style on an OVA adaptation of "Advance of Zeta".

I completely understand you!

Sometimes, I wish some things like 00 and others never ended. Like possibilities, alternatives, and "on the other hand" scenarios.

I just hope Gundam itself never ends.

Well, we've been over that too and it would just become like Bleach and Dragonball Z. A series with normal episodes and fillers. A series like Gundam needs an ending because that's how Gundam stays strong. It's always about a war and such stories just need endings, and usually happy endings. I'm glad they're not making a series of Gundam that just keeps dragging on. It would become tiresome after a while and they wouldn't be able to develop new Universes that way either. Though you could see UC like a series that keeps going on since it's all set in the same universe.

And about Gundam 00, I'm glad it ended otherwise they'd have kept it going with the ending of the film. It would become a series about Space Exploration which wouldn't be anything like Gundam. It would be a rip-off from Star Trek to begin with.

Also, have you guys heard about the 3rd Unicorn unit called Unicorn Gundam Phenex? It's a monstrosity only made to make more money off of the Unicorn frame. Thank god they're not going to randomly add it to episode 7.

Story Synopsis:

0095 year Universal Century, in the region where there is a myriad of debris, the Neo Zeon remnants army the "sleeves" is doing a performance test of a new mobile suit. Then two ships get the information, head to snag the remnants. One ship, a battleship of the Earth Federation Forces, the other, a test ship of Anaheim Electronics Corporation. Inside the federal troops battleship, it was in store when the sortie of Unit 3 of the Unicorn Gundam was newly built....

Both quotes are translated from Japanese I think. Also, it kinda starts the same as how they managed to get the Sinanju Unit. It's odd how this takes place 1 year before Gundam Unicorn and that they already have the Armed Armor DE for it etc.

IMO, the writer should've stopped the Unicorn story after Gundam Unicorn. Now they're just milking it by adding different color variations for the sake of it. Too bad that this is happening to the Universal Century now too.

One of the Seventy Two[/size]

Looks like **** to me :p It's basically made for money making in my eyes because it's another cheap way of re-using the Unicorn frame.

Anyone know of the "shiny finish" kit of 1/100 Gundam Deathscythe Hell EW MG? I've been looking around Google and can't seem to find anything related.

Never heard of a special "shiny finish" kit before. Are you sure it's not a custom painted one?

The Hyaku Shiki is shiny for a reason though. What they did for that Gundam Unicorn Phenex is that they took the original, painted it golden, added a blue psycho frame, changed the V-fin and put 2 shields on it's back. The golden color on the Hyaku Shiki is original and even functional in the story, on the Gundam Unicorn Phenex it's just made to get more money. Besides, I like the Hyaku Shiki paint job a whole lot more than the one on the Phenex unit. The Phenex Unit has more of a yellow tint and the Hyaku Shiki has a proper golden tint.

This is what the actual Gunpla looks like anyways:

20130804212533230.jpg

See how cheap it looks? You can see the blue psycho frame through the golden parts which shouldn't even be possible.

They should've kept Unicorn Gundam the way it is now instead of adding a new unit into the mix. A unit that was in some miracle kind of way finished before the original Gundam and stolen by the sleeves 1 year before the Unicorn Gundam was seen in the field, etc, etc. Why did the sleeves not mod the Unicorn Phenex into the Sinanju? Why did they use a prototype of the Unicorn Gundam? Exactly, because in the original story there is no Unicorn Phenex and only the original plus the Banshee, which was made after the Unicorn was finished. Adding the Phenex unit into the mix just destroys the story that they had already made. To me, the Phenex unit is just a cheap/desperate way of making money now that Unicorn Gundam is so popular. I get it that they wanted to milk Gundam 00 units and Gundam SEED units. But they should stop doing that **** with Universal Century if you ask me.

And yes, it actually IS called Phenex. Phenex is one of Solomon's demons, the 37th demon in the lesser key of Solomon, the Marquis Phenex, said to resemble a Phoenix.

However, the only good thing the anime segment actually brings is a modified Bawoo that's being used by the sleeves. Can't find a picture of it but it looks sweet.

This is the latest post on Gundam Guy's blog: Gundam Front Tokyo Exclusive: HGUC 1/144 Unicorn Gundam Unit 3 Phenex - And like they're saying there, it's more yellow than golden. The parts that looked slightly transparent on other photos don't look like that on those photos though. Either way, it's still one monotone ugliness.

Comeon, the V fin isn't even right. It has the Banshee V-Fin. The correct one has the Banshee V-Fin.That one looks like a KO to me. lol.

Euh? The V-fin of the Banshee unit looks a lot different:

mg_unicorn_banshee_1.jpg

The Phenex unit has it's own original V-fin:

hgucunicorngundam3fenix001.jpg

I have no idea what the person did to his Phenex unit in that photo but it's from Gundam Guy's blog.

Well from the other picture it does seem that it looked like Bandshee's. Since it was so small, I couldn't notice the details.

That would've even been cheaper than what they currently have done. Than they'd have just repainted Banshee instead of taking the Unicorn frame, changing it's V-fin and changing its colors. The Banshee unit at least makes sense in the story and he has modifications. Adding Phenex into the mix just doesn't make sense at all. All of a sudden there has been a 3rd unit in the series, a unit that was finished before the Unicorn and Banshee unit. How does that make sense if the Unicorn unit is the first actual finalized Unicorn unit? His unit number isn't RX-0 for no reason.

I still can't wrap my head around it. The story started in 2006 and ended in 2009 and now they want to alter it in such a stupid way.

    • TO be clear I am not running linux today, however I keep thinking about it. And I want to make sure there are minimal obstacles if I decide to make that switch in the coming months.
    • Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP.
