Neowin.net Minecraft Server (Old Server)

There's a distinct lack of activity on the MC server at the moment. In my case it's due to real life getting in the way most of the time.

Suggestion: We could have a building contest. Have it run for two weeks, and whoever comes up with the most impressive build (as judged by the MC server ops) wins a Neowin tier 2 subscription. Hell, I'll even chip in for the cost of the subscription

Thoughts?

That's what I think as well. Before going ahead and starting a thread I'd like to have more opinions though.

Ideas for the competition rules:

  • Build near spawn - no one is going to see the build if it's 20,000 blocks away in the boonies.
  • You only have the tools the server offers by default at your disposal.
  • Participation is open to all Neowin members. Further requirements can be defined.
  • Contest builds have to be labeled as such. Existing builds are not eligible.
  • The server operators are not eligible to participate, seeing as they have the option to switch to creative mode.
  • Contest runs for two weeks in order to allow for gathering resources and proper building.

I've been trying to work through my backlog of games, getting Starbound in the humble bundle hasn't helped :p

Competitions are always a good idea :)

Well any objections to the suggestions made above? Otherwise I'll start a competition thread tomorrow.

Rules look good to me, are we setting any sort of theme like epic houses, monuments, random objects or free-for-all*  ?

*excluding phallic objects

Free for all (excluding phalluses) I'd say.

I would add, Should be of your own design, not something you can download as a template..

Good point.

I want to have the competition start and end dates on weekends. So I'm going to start the competition thread today after work; this gives us the rest of this week to take care of additional whitelist entries if needed.

I wonder if that was my fault? I was trying out a beta version of Reis Minimap for 1.7.2, maybe I'll hang off on that for a new build. I did go back to 1.7.4, it was still hanging, but maybe the damage was already done.

Doubt it was that, I'm pretty sure that works off the terrain data that the client naturally downloads from the server.

Bukkit stats were stuck at 100% cpu/gpu even though task manager said it was normal. I'd put it down to Bukkit still being wip. :p

in the latest snapshot ops or singleplayer with console has worldedit built in vanilla

This is a basic walkthrough for the new commands introduced in 14w03a, /fill and /clone.

/fill command
The fill command can be used to to fill defined areas with a block type.
This is how you use the fill command:
/fill x1 y1 z1 x2 y2 z2 tilename datavalue oldblockhandling datatags
x1 = The x coordinate[1] of your first position
y1 = The y coordinate[2] of your first position
z1 = The z coordinate[3] of your first position
x2 = The x coordinate[4] of your second position
y2 = The y coordinate[5] of your second position
z2 = The z coordinate[6] of your second position
tilename = The block ID or name[7] for your area.
datavalue = The datavalue[8] for your blocktype, if unused; use 0.
oldblockhandling = The way it treats other blocks in that are already in the area. (Can be: replace, destroy)
datatags = Datatags[9] you want to apply to the area you're filling.

Example command: /fill -44 80 1191 -55 94 1206 minecraft:stone 0 replace

/clone command
The clone command can be used to clone your builds of a defined area to another area.
This is how you use the clone command:
/clone x1 y1 z1 x2 y2 z2 x y z
x1 = The x coordinate[10] of your first position
y1 = The y coordinate[11] of your first position
z1 = The z coordinate[12] of your first position
x2 = The x coordinate[13] of your second position
y2 = The y coordinate[14] of your second position
z2 = The z coordinate[15] of your second position
= The x coordinate[16] of the position you want to clone towards
= The y coordinate[17] of the position you want to clone towards
= The z coordinate[18] of the position you want to clone towards

Example command: /clone 10 80 10 50 90 50 5 95 5

also it looks like they are changing how the user skins is rendered and you can have armor skins as part of it as well. and seperate skins for each arm and leg.

I hope Dinnerbone adds a new item to do the lmb/rmb co-ord setting :p

Right now it looks like you have to write down co-ord A and B before going to destination A and typing it all out :o

that's why i like the mod better. turning an item into a wand makes things so much easier

the idea  there at the end of the video give me the idea to make a room with buttons that will clone rooms that are elsewhere. so you can have a room of requirement like in harry potter. a button on the outside that you click to make the room what you want of it. just have the room setup somewhere and clone it to that location when you want to use it.

using the new clone feature i had an idea (but cannot get it working yet) you can create rooms that are all the same dimension and hide them in your base or home or whatnot. and then create an empty room. From there you can use the command block and buttons to "move" the rooms to your empty room. Making a single room that can be whatever room you want it to be.

    • Studio MDHR reveals Cuphead sequel and an 8-bit platformer spin-off by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Studio MDHR has been rather silent about its next major gaming project since the release of Cuphead back in 2017. However, that ended today during the Summer Game Fest presentation, with the studio revealing not one but two project announcements. First, the studio confirmed that it is currently in the middle of developing a brand-new Cuphead game, bringing back the iconic characters for another adventure. Just like the last game, this is slated to be a fully hand-animated endeavor. This also means there isn't a release date attached to it yet. “Craftsmanship is at the heart of everything we do here at Studio MDHR,” says co-founder Chad Moldenhauer. “When it came time to peel back the curtain and share a little bit about what we’ve been up to, we couldn’t imagine a more fun way to do so than with today’s Special Bulletin. The studio is working on this new Cuphead with help from Toronto’s Stop Motion Department and Continue Agency. At the same time, Studio MDHR also revealed that another part of the team has been working on a different Cuphead installment. Dubbed the Mighty Cuphead Adventure, this is taking a different art direction to the original. "In true Studio MDHR fashion, this game goes beyond just taking inspiration from the classics of the 1980s… it is actually built with technology of the era," the studio explained. "That's right: Mighty Cuphead Adventure is programmed in assembly language and designed with the exacting specifications of the Sega Master System home gaming console in mind." Aside from releasing on PC and modern consoles, Mighty Cuphead Adventure will even be playable on the 1985-released Sega Master System. A release date has not been announced just yet.
    • Any decent ITSM will A) have a web form that allows a user to raise a ticket, if you're writing an email you can write a ticket. B) Monitor a mailbox and auto-generate tickets based on inbound mails for those users that really can't get their heads around the concept that if you have an issue you go to support.mycompany.com and fill in the box. From your description you're having users email the desk, and then having a human read each one and manually raise a ticket on behalf of the user.
