Expected, good, but either MS doesn't have enough stock or more of America wanted a PS4 (PS4 only launched in USA/Canada vs One worldwide).

theres 6 1/3 hours left for a 24 hour north American tally, 1/4 of a 24 hour day.

Well since MS was spread thinner than Sony, its certainly possible that it lead to some shortages in some regions. But MS and Sony both keep claiming they will keep up with demand, so we will see.

Been playing CoD: Ghosts for about an hour and just ran into my first issue.  The game crashed and showed the Ghosts wallpaper and gave me an error saying "Out of memory 27."  Then it went back to the home screen.  It happened while it was loading a level (either the 3rd or 4th level).  It's the level right after "Homecoming" for those that have been playing.  The father was telling the story about the main villain while they were on the helicopter and it showed Caracas, then crash.  Sucks because now it's making me redo the entire previous level from the beginning again.

I was one of the unfortunate's of a lemon Xbone. The update went smoothly, but the Kinect was not detected and it wouldn't read game disc. After talking to MS I am shipping it back for a replacement.

Well Microsoft has no idea what happened to my Day One pre-order and why it never got processed. My friend who got a Day One was undecided if he was going to keep it so he gave it to me, and when I get mine I'll see if he wants it or sell it and give him the money.  This happened even though a rep Thursday assured me mine was coming.

Ok, here's another weird issue.  Was going through my recent activity and noticed I had 7 achievements unlocked for CoD: Ghosts.  The problem is that I never saw any of the achievement notifications pop up when they unlocked.  Anybody else have this happen?

Edit: This may be a bug (or they'll call it by design) of the Xbox One software.  Just found this: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-16750-Xbox-One-Achievements-Don-t-Unlock-While-Offline.html

I haven't noticed any achievement issues while playing KI, so maybe its also a game specific issue.

As far as the offline thing, that sounds like a bug, so hopefully that gets fixed soon. Now remember that there are those 'challenges' that have been added to the achievement section. Those work differently and rotate constantly, so I get why those would only work while you are online. The basic achievements should keep working while offline, so maybe it is a bug.

I am stuck with 3 things:

1) How do I eject a disc? (or is it that I am installing so it won't let me?)

2) Is there an "Active Downloads" section, similar to Xbox 360?

3) Do patches have to be downloaded/installed before actual installation can take place?

If you are installing a game from the disc, then no, you cant eject it until that is done.

As far as patches go, I'm not sure, KI installed first and then when I loaded the game, it pulled down updates.

1.) The only way I've found to eject a disc is to walk over to the system and touch the eject button.  It's touch sensitive, so you only need to just touch it.

2.) Go to my games and apps.  That's where it shows what's queued and what the progress of the currently downloading/installing item is.

3.) Yes.  If you're installing a game and there's a patch, you have to download the patch first.  Once the patch is downloaded, the game will start to install from the disc.

If you have the game/app show it's tile on your home screen don't you get a small progress bar at the bottom of the tile to show you where it's at?   If it's downloading updates for the game in question wouldn't it show the same thing again like it did when it was installed?  Or if the game/app is in your pins for example?

Pleased to say that my Xbox One wasn't a lemon. So glad I didn't take the day off because mine wasn't delivered until around 6.30pm yesterday!

It was like being a kid at Christmas when it arrived! Everything went smoothly for me, set up fine, installed the update and it was ready to go.

The FIFA 14 was downloadable so I used the 'Xbox, use a code' command and showed the QR Code to Kinect and it automatically started downloading. Whilst that was downloading I queued up SkyDrive, Skype, Upload Studio and what I found to be rather odd, the app that allows BluRay & DVD playback?

I purchased Forza 5 & Battlefield 4 (physical disc) and I started by playing some Battlefield 4. It's gorgeous, I didn't play it on the 360 and I must say the visuals are stunning! I have been a COD guy before so it took sometime getting used to controls ect. I am not a fan of how the MP is laid out and it's tough getting in to a game with friends. I did run in to one issue as did a lot of my friends and that would be we'd join a MP session and for some reason be kicked right out to the Xbox Home screen. Also, I do get annoyed with the 'friend session invites' that pop up on BF4 right in the middle of the screen at times, I can be in the middle of a game & it pops up!

Forza 5 is stunning! I've completed the 1st 5 races , after 3 races your 'Drivatar' has enough information to put out in to the world of racing which I think is really cool. I was in a party chat with some friends and one of them was playing Forza 5 at the time, my Drivatar was in one of his races and he was raging because it was driving aggressive and was winning most of the races! Haha.

During one Forza race I came in to some trouble with a few shunts, lost control and barrel rolled the car a few times. This was the perfect time to use the 'Xbox, Record That' command. Paused the game, entered Upload Studio, reviewed the clip, trimmed it and uploaded it to SkyDrive. Here it is for you guys.

You guys are lucky, it's not even out in my market yet so I'll be a bit late to the party.

nice video :)

about the bluray app, its similar to the 360, where you have to download a media update(codecs) to be able to play certain mediatypes. that's because Microsoft pays licensing fees for dvd/bluray/codecs, which is around $10 per player, and there will be many people who don't use this functionality.

Anyone elses controller wobble? I just put it down on my desk and noticed it.

Just place 8 post-it notes under the right side to fix it.

Has anyone tried or knows of anyone who's actually imported one yet?   I'm wondering how it's going to work if you're connecting to XBL from a country outside of the launch list at this point?

Yes it does. I think some people would just prefer a download center that only kept a list of downloads/patches/installs, etc. I need more time with it to decide if I'm ok with the current method. It works and I can definitely see the progress from the dash.

If you have several things queued up, you can see that list by going into the 'games and apps' tile

There was an article about this a while back, I'll see if I can dig it up.

I think the crux of it was that you can import just fine, but you will not be able to buy anything on XBL unless your using a credit card or gift card that is from that same country. So if you import from the UK, you need a UK credit card or gift card to buy stuff.

I believe you will be able to change that once your region gets an official release.

I think a Active Downloads or Download Center is low on the list of things because if you use it as designed it will just download things automatically in the background,  updates to games, apps, OS etc.  You shouldn't have to keep track of things past the initial install for them.

Ok, just ran through the setup process. Two questions

1 why is the xbox not sending the correct signal to my receiver when watching tv, instead of it showing Dolby 5.1 its showing multichannel

2 is there a way to watch tv without the xbox being on? I swore I read that it does simple pass through when off this does not appear to be the case for me.

Hopefully this is an easy fix that I am just missing.

Mutltichannel is pcm, better than Dolby digital as long as you're seeing all channels light up. I dont have TV so I can't comment on passthrough myself.

I guess I just liked seeing my Dolby lights show on the reciever. The tv not working without the xbox on is almost a deal breaker for me because my wife will hate that

I'm not using the TV feature either, so I can't test pass through.

I do know that audio will pass through when the X1 is off. There are settings for that, so I would suggest looking through that section for anything related to pass through.

These monitors will truly enhance the way you game on the latest Xbox, says company
      by Sayan Sen

Last year in September, Microsoft launched its "Designed for Xbox" program which, as the name says, certifies products and accessories that have been designed to work with the Xbox to give customers the best experience. Today the company is expanding that program to include monitors that it believes will work best when paired with an Xbox Series X|S.

In its blog post, the company has really stressed the capabilities of monitors that can take full advantage of new consoles' powers. In particular, HDMI 2.1 seems to really be the focus of this program and it's easy to why because the HDMI 2.1 standard is capable of up to 48Gbps bandwidth which is enough to push 8K60, 4K120, and even 10K.

HDMI 2.1 also has several gaming-centric features like Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and Quick Frame Transport (QFT). So users with a monitor that has HDMI 2.1 input would be able to take advantage of these features on their Xbox Series X|S.

The HDMI 2.1 also has a few other features too which include:

Dynamic HDR support, eARC connectivity, Quick Media Switching (QMS). In terms of products, a few Designed for Xbox displays have also been announced. They are:

Philips Momentum 559M1RYV 55” (video promo above) ASUS Strix Xbox Edition Gaming Monitor XG43UQ 43” Acer Xbox Edition Gaming Monitor XV282K KV 28” A feature common in all these monitors is support for FreeSync Premium Pro. For those who don't know, FreeSync Premium Pro is the highest tier for FreeSync monitors designed for taking advantage of HDR content, high refresh rates (>120Hz), and also has low framerate compensation (LFC).

These monitors should become available this summer says Xbox and more such Designed for Xbox monitors are also planned for later. You can read more about it here.

Microsoft Weekly: A round of Windows leaks, Xbox mini fridges, and hybrid work
      by Florin Bodnarescu

In the last seven days we’ve seen the set of E3 2021 announcements from Microsoft – including the Xbox Mini Fridge -, the leaking of a Windows 11 ISO, and a number of other bits of news. You can find info about that, as well as much more below, in your Microsoft digest for the week of June 13 - 19.

      A round of Windows leaks

The week started in what the Redmond firm could call not ideal conditions, since screenshots of the yet-to-be announced Windows 11 emerged. A little later that same day, the situation got even more interesting as an ISO of build 21996.1 made its way onto the web.

Naturally, we got our hands on it and have chosen to highlight a number of the OS’s new features – like the Windows 10X-esque centered taskbar icons, rounded corners, or the translucent UI (in some places) – via either screenshots of the desktop UI, the OOBE, the new window snapping UI, the new set of wallpapers, and more.

It does seem that out of all, the Home version requires an internet connection to complete setup, but luckily there’s a workaround. In case you want to test this out yourself, you might want to be quick as Microsoft is already issuing DMCA complaints to take down the leaked ISO.

We won’t have long to wait until an official announcement though, with the dedicated set of events scheduled for June 24 at 11AM ET and June 24 at 3PM ET (the latter of which is aimed at developers). On that day we might also see the performance boots that the OS brings, especially for big.LITTLE x86 CPUs – as shown in a set of tests.

      Xbox mini fridges

As is tradition, Microsoft held its annual E3 event on the Sunday just before the event’s kickoff, and on this occasion, it was joined by the Bethesda folks (the parent company of which it finalized the acquisition of this year).

To further emphasize the above, the showcase even started with Starfield, Bethesda’s first new IP in years. Powered by the Creation Engine 2, the title showcased an in-game cinematic sequence and perhaps more surprisingly, a release date as well.

The sci-fi game is coming November 11, 2022 (exactly 11 years after the release of Skyrim) and yes, it will be exclusive to Microsoft platforms.

While we’re on the subject of Bethesda, there was also some new ESO and Fallout 76 content announced, along with the fact that Game Pass is getting a number of the missing titles from the publisher, alongside titles like the entire Yakuza series, and even Turtle Rock’s Back 4 Blood on day one. Also in the Bethesda camp was a new IP from Arkane Austin, dubbed Redfall. The co-op vampire hunting game is coming summer 2022, unsurprisingly also to Game Pass day one.

We’ll touch on the fact that Injustice: Gods Among Us and Shadows Awakening are now free to claim, and that there’s in fact a rather good selection of Deals with Gold to peruse, while also mentioning that game stories is now a supported feature in the Xbox app and that the June update for the console has brought party chat accessibility options, among other things.

Speaking of other things, Battlefield 2042 gameplay was shown off during the game showcase, as was an interspersed story / gameplay trailer for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl (which lands April 28 next year, also in Game Pass), a cinematic announce trailer for co-op Xbox exclusive Contraband from Avalanche Studios, a cheeky meta cinematic announce trailer for The Outer Worlds 2, and more.

Alternate-universe sci-fi RPG Atomic Heart got yet another trailer at the event – sans release date -, Diablo II: Resurrected made an appearance too – showcasing its launch day of September 23 -, and Age of Empires IV got its long overdue launch date of October 28, available across PC and Game Pass.

In additional unexpected news, Sea of Thieves got a Pirates of the Caribbean crossover, bringing Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones and crew to the game thanks to a new original story dubbed A Pirate’s Life, which is coming for free to the tile on June 22.

Another game that got a release date was Flight Simulator, which lands on Series X|S consoles on July 27 – and has just gotten its World Update V, with a free Top Gun expansion coming this fall -, as well as Forza Horizon 5. The latter is set in Mexico and rather unexpectedly, lands on November 9 this year.

Of course, after the advent of Craig memes from last year, it was expected that 343 would show an updated look at Halo Infinite, complete with Joseph Staten on stage, a highlight of the game’s story and multiplayer, and an announcement that they will launch together this holiday. Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer is also adding personal AIs for players, among other things.

Finally, the option to make your controllers more personal is now back, as Microsoft has relaunched the Xbox Design Lab with support for the new controller. That said, it’s not the only hardware announcement that the company made at this event.

After rumors of a streaming stick started circulating, folks assumed that the ‘one more thing’ at the end would be this. However, the Redmond giant leaned heavily into the memes and has announced it’ll make an Xbox Mini Fridge (shaped like the Series X).

Yes, it’s real, and yes, it’s coming holiday 2021 – even outside the United States.

      Hybrid work

Slotting just between the Xbox E3 showcase and the Windows event next week was a virtual presentation focused on hybrid work.

At this event, Microsoft has announced new Teams Rooms features like a “front row” layout for meetings, improved video layouts across multiple screens, new Together Mode scenes on the Surface Hub, and much, much more. Naturally, these features will be rolled out to Insiders first.

On the subject of Teams, the firm has additionally integrated Headspace for mindfulness exercises and to boost personal wellbeing in remote work situations. Worthy of mention is also the fact that inline chat message translation is now available for Teams on Android.

Last but not least, Whiteboard has received a redesign, which aims to help folks collaborate better in hybrid environments.

      Dev channel
Edge Dev build 93.0.916.1 is now out, with a number of bug fixes. Better sharing and file picking were among the enhancements that arrived to OneDrive in May. Microsoft has elected Satya Nadella as chairman of its board of directors. Visual Studio 2022 Preview 1 is now available for Windows. Logging off
We end with a bit of an interesting bug related to the newly added News and Interests taskbar widget.

For folks running one of the various flavors of Windows 10 that have this feature, (1909 and up), there are instances in which the News and Interests text and icon appear blurry.

The issue has now been acknowledged by the firm as occurring on “certain display configurations”. Of course, which ones these are is set to remain a mystery. What’s also going to remain a mystery is when Microsoft plans to fix it, as the only time frame indication given was that it’ll happen in an “upcoming release”.

If you couldn’t care less about the widget, it can thankfully be turned off.

Missed any of the previous columns? Be sure to have a look right here.

Microsoft announces game stories in the Xbox app
      by Jay Bonggolto

Microsoft announced today a new feature in the Xbox app for Android and iOS that's inspired by a popular feature from various social networking apps. The Xbox app is adding stories from various game brands such as Forza, Halo, and Sea of Thieves.

The new stories feature has been showcased on Xbox's official Twitter account, and it has a similar interface that you can find on social networking platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. Unlike stories from those services, however, the Xbox app's version displays the buttons for likes, shares, and comments at the bottom of the screen as well as their corresponding numbers.

Stories can be found below the cards of game titles and are labeled "official posts from games" instead of "stories". This means the content you will see are coming only from game brands you follow instead of from your friends like you can with most social media apps. There's no word on whether Microsoft will give users the ability to post stories on the app.

The new experience should be a welcome development for those who want to receive updates from their favorite game brands or studios. It also expands the app's capabilities after Microsoft added support for remote play last year along with a new UI that debuted on Xbox consoles with the October 2020 update.

Now that we're getting Windows 11 and things are starting to change up more than the past few years with Windows 10, I un-pinned the old Windows 10 thread and started this one.

With the leaked build and the event coming on the 24th things are getting interesting once more.
