Flaky compass... You mean where almost nothing shows up and what does, glitches in and out? Yeah, it's done that from the start, so it'll be nice to finally get the compass fixed, though I've almost gotten used to not relying on it.

 

About the bars... I put one up on the roof of my little, I guess you could say shopping mall. I built a two-level shack on the foundation just next to the main one with the workbench. Floors, walls, stairs in the back left, and then up top, railing all around, the level 3 food/drink "Bar," a couple small tables and a long one, chairs all around. The guy I put on the merchant stall (the bar) never used it and almost no one sat up there. Preston did but no one else.

 

I've since ripped out the top level and moved the bar to the farthest plot, in the cul de sac. There's two plots, and one is sort of a swanky lounge I set up but I never use, using Institute parts. And it's got a ton of protection. Laser turrets and stuff. But I think I'm gonna build a proper club next to it. Two levels high, with the bar and a dance floor in the big open section, with the second level only using up a quarter to a third of the area, with seating up there (VIP I guess, I'll use nicer furniture) and below it. So I'm thinking like, standard floor plan, stairs in the back right corner, I won't put the floors down, I'll just put the stairs in the back corner and then put in an upper floor, and put in the disco ball and the lights overhead and do the wiring, then store most of the second level, build the floor with it, and then set up the ground level stuff.

 

I really hope a future DLC allows for more building options, and more jobs. Like we should be able to assign settlers to be entertainers. Maybe nothing so crude as strippers, but at least dancers. Maybe if you give them a formal suit/Tuxedo or a dress, they can change into that and put on a little PG-13 or light R-rated show. Hey, showing some leg and getting cat called has to be easier than farming all day, and people need entertainment. I'm not talking about anything X-rated. That's why we have mods. I mean, at the Third Rail you can hit on and have sex with the lounge singer. So it wouldn't be out of line to let you build and run a bar/club. And there should be other things as well. Maybe set up a gambling establishment, and then gamble there. Build slot machines, train dealers for card tables, and take in the profits. There were New Vegas mods that let you do this. Open and run the Lucky 38, for example. No real reason we shouldn't be able to do that in Fallout 4.

 

What kind of specialty stores or businesses would you open for your settlers?

Also, can you get Bunker Hill as a settlement if you're with the Railroad? I have read that you can if you're with the Brotherhood.

 

When I got the "Battle for Bunker Hill" quest, I opted to warn the Railroad, but not the Brotherhood of Steel. The Railroad told me to kill the Courser who would be escorting me. They also said something about knowing when to act, but as soon as I got there, the Brotherhood, Railroad, and Institute Synths were all fighting each other. I killed my Courser first, then every Synth I came across. Killed all the Synths above, then went down and killed Synths there, too. I got to the four Synths being protected, and they all thanked me for sparing them. Ultimately, the Railroad beat the Brotherhood. So I left and went and told Father that I failed and only I got out.

 

Came back to Bunker Hill a bit later and everyone there was hostile. I don't need to slaughter everyone to get it as a settlement, do I? If they were helping the Railroad before, shouldn't they still be friendly to the Railroad now?

You just got your first Like. That's too many power armors for me, though. I would like to start a collection, but not to display all in a row. I think a single suit of armor can work well as a decoration, a conversation piece for a room.

 

I ought to do videos. My settlements are nothing special either, but I'm pretty proud of that swamp area. And it's really just three wooden pre-fabs, a couple generators, a purifier, and a little farm. But it looks like something a bunch of settlers threw together in a week or so and they're making it work.

 

No corrupt saves, but a lot of crashes to desktop. Seems like the higher level you are, the more finicky the game gets. What level are you? I'm 51 or 52.

Level 70 or so.  No other issues with the game other than recent corrupt saves.

 

Sanctuary is the only settlement I actually put some time in to.  To much work for every settlement.  Most are just defended with turrets, places to sleep, food/water.

 

Last part of my video where I go up the stairs....where I have one of each suit of power armor displayed.  I believe there are only 7 diff suits (unless I missed something).  The ones in a row on the street at the beginning are not upgraded at all.  Just pieced together from parts I found.

Do you use any mods? I use a few, and they're hit and miss, probably due to the CK not being available yet. It's all hackery at this point.

 

Got the AMD update from the last page, and had to test it out this morning before bed. And holy hell the game is so much better. Finicky compass gone. I can actually use it. And I feel like my frame rate is better. Everything just moves more smoothly.

 

I ended up getting Bunker Hill after all. I returned after a few days in-game, and Kessler, the mayor, commented on my powerful friends and that they're all going to stay out of my way, and give me the run of the place. Disappointing though, so little is scrappable. The author of the scrap mod I use must not have ever gotten Bunker Hill, because I ought to be able to clear away all that debris and make the place look nearly "like new". Shame you can't do anything for imperfections like holes in roofs, walls, etc. You really should be able to, with the right amounts of wood, steel, concrete, etc. Or plastic, I'm assuming in Sanctuary, those houses look like plastic in the pre-war scene. Or maybe ceramic. Maybe it's just polished, painted steel. Anyway, the perimeter is actually inside the walls. So you don't get the areas outside the walls. No putting turrets all around and shooting the raiders and ghouls down the street. But I will get that done. Interior raised walkway with missile turrets every 25 feet or so.

Naw, ok XBOX so no mods.  Have not done the bunker hill mission yet. 

 

Sanctuary does not get attacked at all.  Maybe once since I played it.  So nothing but turrets up for defense.  No missiles/lasers or anything.  The Castle tho, I have the east side guarded but 2 missile turrets and a few lasers.  That side always gets attacked in force.  So the turrets make short work of the enemies

I don't have an Xbox One, but when I played Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Oblivion, and Skyrim on the Xbox 360, I never had a single issue with any of them except the long load times. Not sure what to say about that. The console versions are supposed to be 'safe.'

 

The Castle... on my first save, I was able to rebuild the walls with the big concrete shack foundations. It looked great. Can't get it to do it on this one. Guess I need to hit the guides.

 

My settlements get attacked and I miss the little toast notifications. One of these days I'm just going to go to each one, turn on god mode, and just put an absurd amount of defence on the place. Like laser turrets and missile turrets and maybe a wall with a couple choke points for the provisioners to go in and out of.

 

Here's some food for thought going into the work week, for the game now being two months old. And it includes spoilers, so only click to reveal them if you've found The Institute and discovered the game's Big Reveal.

Why didn't Shaun start a family? I mean, his plan was to not fight the cancer and hand the Institute over to his one surviving parent, who is 30-35 years his junior. But why do that? His mother or father is a wild card. Why not pass it on to the son or daughter he's raised their whole lives, and is more of a sure thing? Yeah, I know, he never had time for a family. But I don't buy that. So he pours his whole life into the Institute, only to turn it over to a wild card? And that is more plausible than he had a hot lab partner he fell in love with and she popped out two or three babies? He's sixty, he should be a grandfather.

 

So I got to thinking how the Institute could play out. In addition to teleporting Coursers, they could have a secret way in. Maybe a couple of them. And maybe these places are well hidden and heavily guarded. And they're impossible to breach before you get in, so you definitely have to build the thing to teleport in. And then you still meet little robot Shaun, and then grandfatherly Shaun. Who rather than throwing you to the department heads, he introduces you to his family. His oldest child, who he's named after you, and their spouse. And their little baby, who they named after your spouse who died. After their father's dead parent, to honor their memory. Tears all around as you get to hold the baby, and the baby's other parent is so honored to meet you, sorry for your loss, and sorry you didn't get to see Shaun grow up, but they want you there for their child, to be the godmother or the godfather.

 

Then he's got twins, a boy and a girl. The girl is a lesbian, and she and her partner have been trying to have a baby, via insemination, of course. But Shaun doesn't have the heart to tell his daughter that her partner is a Synth. So you find this out, and you can either tell your granddaughter the truth, and/or you can convince her that she should be the one to bear the child (for some reason she doesn't want to). And her twin brother is a Railroad sympathizer, maybe member, and you can help him, and work with him if you side with the Railroad... or if you're Brotherhood, you can tell him you're Railroad and get him inadvertently working for the Brotherhood.

 

Amidst all of this, you slowly learn that Shaun is sick, and that the department heads are beating down his door trying to find a replacement. Then you go work with them. The replacement can be you, or it can be Shaun's oldest child, or it can be the male twin. (No reason it can't be the female twin, just no up side to it.) If it's the male twin, the Railroad or Brotherhood controls the Institute by proxy. If it's the oldest child, it's business as usual. If it's you, then the Institute joins the fraternity of Bethesda guilds whose leader only pops in once every couple years, gets crowned its king and then moves on to the next. And I guess if it's the girl twin, it's also business as usual, or maybe they change how synths are treated if she finds out her partner is one — and if she does, they stay together. Another angle to the lesbian synth story, maybe you can convince your granddaughter's partner to take a walk with you, and she gets wiped and sent through the Railroad, because don't we all miss evil Karma?

 

The ultimate goal in all this is to have the Institute more... open to you. Because as it is now, it seems like you find the place, and then you're with them or against them. And I think it should be more like... this is your legacy, and you can be exiled if you really screw it up, but here's half a dozen reasons not to. Anyway, food for thought.

Still completely loving this game.  I just love that I can go back to setting up my settlements when I'm sick of fighting or wandering the wastelands.  Disappointed when all my mates want to play BF4 so I have to stop!

One of the things I like about console games.  Hard to cheat/enter a code or apply a mod to make the game easier.   I put up enough turrets in my settlements so defending them is a breeze.  If your settlement gets attacked, you have to go to it anyway or else you failed defending them.  Not like you can put up 100 turrets and expect the settlement to be safe even if you dont go to their aide.

 

I actually have 92 percent approval rating on Sanctuary.  Looking to build a few more things and trying to find some more lvl 4 merchants to get closer to 100.  Sanctuary was really the only place I am interested in settling.  Started there, will end there.  I have salvaged eveything cept for the my original home.  Kept that the same way.

 

Also have a great shotgun with explosive rounds.  Most powerful one I could find even after reading a bunch of stuff online.  Wish I remembered where I got it.  Can take down the toughest  enemy in 2-3 shots.  Coursers, death claws....doesnt matter.

Yea, I spend time playing the story line and exploring.  Been exploring the glowing sea and finding diff locations.  Games like this which are so detailed/involved...I dont rush and tend to get the most out of it.  I doubt I will play FO4 from beginning to end again.  So want to make the most of it.

This!  They've done a remarkable job of the world, it's so detailed, and you are always finding something new an unexpected.  The minutemen quests can get a bit repetitive, but they still love me even if I don't help them.

 

I have a mate who has just started it again after sinking about 100 hours into it.  He wants to do things a bit different, to check different outcomes.  Now he's upset because it isn't the same, it just feels like a replay.  So I certainly think I'll be shelving it once I have finished doing what I'm doing.

You HUD is blue?  How is that?

You can change the Pip-boy and the HUD colours from the settings menu, just move the RGB sliders. I went with New Vegas yellow so my Pip-boy light is white. :D

Yea. changed my HUD because got tired of the green.  Picked light blue because that is the closest you can get to normal light.  So when I have my flashlight on my pipboy, I can actually see things in a not green tinted.  Also, little easier on the eyes.

It was one of the first things I changed, having an amazingly vibrant game bathed in fo3 green was off-putting, I tried going full white but bright white text on black left my eyes with screen burn. :laugh:

I Google a ton of things about Fallout.  There are lots they didnt tell you that you could do.  Rebuilding the walls is pretty  sweet. Now there is only 1 entrance in to the Castle (I did create stairs on one side so I didnt have to keep running around)   Just looks more bad ass
