I did not like the new look at first, but it has grown on me a lot. I have had no problems with it at all. It?s running fine. Had not one crash with it, and I have been testing all the features to make sure. I have sent feedback on what I like and don?t though, so I feel im helping beta test it. A thanks goes to my mate Rob who sent me the invit:) :)

Just a screen-shot of it all open.

I had been joined WLM8 beta by Neowin members's invite

Anyone know that there is an official beta newsgroup for WLM8 or not?

and how can I join it?

As far as i know, the people who were invited do not have access to it. go to connect.microsoft.com, log in, if you have messanger 8 in there you can set the newsgroup password, if it's not in there (which i don't think it is for those people), then you won't be able to use the newsgroup.

There might be a bit more to it than that. Apparently it's disabled for Australians (which according to your profile you are).

I don't think its disabled for Aussies....Shared Folders also requires that you have a NTFS Partition and unmolded .exe that doesnt modify the 'digital signature'

OK - I'm not sure if anyone's clarified this in the ~32 pages before, but if you get invited to the Live Messenger beta, do you get invites of your own to pass on?

This is what is says when I log in to Windows Live Ideas (I was invited)

Hopefully they will give us some invites so we can return the favour.

Just to let people who dont know, You are free to sell your invites on ebay or the like. MS have said its cool with them. I read this from http://www.mess.be/ under the 'WINDOWS LIVE MESSENGER 8.0 BETA CHAT'

This is what was said, to someone at MS:

Q: What do you guys think about people selling their windows live messenger invites on ebay?

A: I think it is cool. We actually have a pool to see what the highest price is.

To access the newsgroups or Connect website at all you must be a user invited to the beta by Microsoft.

All people invited by other people (testers) are only there to use the program and to test server load. :)

never trust a person who is willing to trade for invites i had a person pm me with over 500 posts the person said they will give me an invite for live mail if i gave them a wlm 8 invite so i did person pmed saying he/she didnt have an invite for live mail yet grrrrrrrrr

so if anybody has a live mail invite pm thx

could just give it me for xmas :santa:

Will Messenger Live overwrite Messenger 7.5? I ask this because I have 2 messenger accounts but only 1 will allow me to use Messenger Live.

Yes when you install messenger live it will overwrite msn messenger 7.5 unless u rename the msn folder to a new name before you install windows messenger live!

Best thing to do...is just copy the complete folder and move it...then rename it MSN_7.5 and then create a shortcut from the msnmsgr.exe...then have the WLM install over the stuff in the default folder.

    • I think the car analogy is more this: Left hand drive, basic commands on the left side of the infotainment screen. Right hand drive, basic commands on the right side of the infotainment screen. Granted, you're not swapping between the two often so it's doesn't really work. But it's to do with the proximity of you (your mouse, or the driver) to the controls.
    • I mean, the old one was broken and so stupidly complex for many users, so I don't see that as a feasible option. A context menu needs to be simple to use, and for me the Windows 11 style actually worked really well for me, and many others. I used to have to scroll the damn context menu just to get to "file properties" in Windows 10. That was not a good experience, and I'm sure you'd agree. What they're trying to do is make it the best of both worlds, as clearly you'd prefer the Win10 style. I'm curious how they're going to do this.
    • The "Show more options" has its place, as does the simpler context menu, but it should perhaps be a separate fly-out rather than relaunching the entire, old context menu. The old context menu was getting absurd in Windows 10. Often I'd have to make the context menu scroll just to get to "File properties" on my old laptop. Even without much installed, the amount of items was just too much. It's a context menu, not a "do all" menu. Making it configurable is fraught with challenges too, so I'm interested to see how Microsoft tackles this one.
    • I don't hate the new menus, I am not a fan of the lack of features and how they went live when they clearly are not complete. The menu itself presents much better than the previous - but what's lacking (IMO) is: 1) Any kind of automated manipulation such as: "this goes on the new menu because you use this feature more often on this filetype" "this is rarely used and will fall back to the old menu" 2) Any kind of user manipulation such as: "a UI to add/remove/order items to the new menu"
