Windows 7 Build 7100 RC (Changes/Bugs/Tweaks) Discussion

I can confirm that the BSOD when unplugging an XBOX 360 controller has been fixed in this build. Whoever said MS issued a WU update for it doesn't know what they're talking about. :)

Saying WU Update doesnt make sense. It's like saying Windows Update Update. :p

Didn't you know I'm from the...

Lolz, that actually made my day.

Over at Windows 7 Team Blog:

"I?m pleased to share that the RC is on track for April 30th for download by MSDN and TechNet subscribers. Broader, public availability will begin on May 5th."

For those who like it official, anywa:):)

That "click" isn't GONE though, but it's better. Plus, WMP 12 doesn't feel as sluggish as it did. In 7077, it was slow, esp. on first opening. Feels more lively now. Still "updates my media info" forever and ever, though....

You are right, it's slightly better but not completely fixed. Still too annoying so back to vista for me. (what would I do without complete pc backup & restore feature in vista)

i still cant get the brightness settings to work properly with this build. they worked fine with build 7000, but with every other build theyve been busted.

i just read on engadget that MS will release the RC to technet on April 30th and to public May 5th. i'm hoping the RC they release is something diff from this build 7100 because this has been annoying the hell out of me.

using a T400 btw.

I know MS sez to do a clean install on RC, but I have been burned on one PC on every build since 7022 by an internet bug so I am gonna install it to a test partition instead just to see. Anybody think this will cause extra problems due to it being an RC? I just need a day to see if it drops internet then hangs on restart, then if it doesn't I will celebrate by zeroing the drive and installing clean from USB.

I actually went back to Vista for a little because of the animation glitches myself, but I found that I missed 7's Aero Snap, taskbar, and overall color cheme. (As far as I know, there is no Ux patch for SP2 rtm, so I couldn't use a custom theme w/Vista SP2) Vista seemed kinda dark in appearance and a bit heavier in feel. So I just had to go back. Still wish for the Classic control panel view, sometimes.

To the previous poster, I say go for it!

WIN7 BUG QUESTION -

Is it true that bugs from here on out will be fixed via Windows Updates rather than newer builds? If so, does that mean there will be no further builds?

Should we be turning on Windows updates on a leaked build we are not even supposed to have? Anyone get any love from WU yet?

Vista SP2 has not RTMed yet, the last build which leaked was a RTM Escrow, which is different. Rafael will probably release a patched DLL when it is released in final form

Thanks for the info... indeed you are right....

Also, anyone who uses MagicJack may have not gotten it to work on the Beta, and who have not used any of the recent builds will discover that it works on the RC (and 7048, 7068, 7077, don't know about 7016)

I wouldn't worry about turning WU on. I don't think MS cares about some people having the build early. All it means is less of a hit on their servers come official release.

I was really excited about the superbar when I first tried it in the pdc build (thanks to blue badge) . However after actually using it for my day to day things I found the default grouping to be less convenient/productive. Without the grouping it is no better/different than what vista has. One thing I do miss is the built in h.264 codec which seems to be the only glitch free codec when it comes to dxva playback on the intel g45 chipset.

sorry but after reading both your posts about usenet i'm not sure you do know...giganews for example has 240 day retention expanding to a whole year...gl keeping a seed up for that long...par files will can certainly be used to repair and apps like newsleecher will only dl them if and when needed to fix an archive or you could just do it manually...in short if it's not yer cup of tea that's fine but no need to be so defensive about it

edit quoted bodean when i meant to quote frank lol

Just upgraded from 7077x64 to 7100, took a lot longer than usual. Feels as zippy and stable as 7077. The taskbar UI drag issue is still there but could be holdover from 7077. Strangely I didn't have to mod a file or anything to do the upgrade.

Yes, they changed it so you can upgrade from 7077 without modding anything.

For upgrading from an earlier build, you still have to do the mod, though.

Really? Cool so i can upgrade from 7077 to 7100 easy? Upgrade from Windows, or upgrade from Boot?

    • Shocker! It would be crazy to be ready to introduce a "fold" phone but have no plans happening for a followup model.
    • XBOX is at the end of its generational life cycle and wasn't selling much anyway. They need to figure out the pricing for XBOX Helios. However, I'm not buying the DRAM shortage with AI preferring HBM. I think it's industry gouging.
