2010 Summer Football Transfers

yeah quite the super squad! but if they do anything that's the thing!

I have the feeling that they will do something special.. reason is Mourinho.. wherever he goes he instils team spirit.. plus you see how he got rid of Raul and Guti and almost Casillas.. he knew the old guard were the problem so they are almost gone.. he built his own team.. and now they have a chance to win.. on the other hand though.. if someone doesn't win a trophy with this super squad then they deserve to be fired :p

We have bellamy!!! w00t.gif

Can't believe it really. Not too long ago we were in division 3, struggling to some teams who aren't even in the football league anymore, with attendances of less than 2000. Such a huge leap. Its brilliant.

Sevilla have confirmed they are in talks with Arsenal over the possible sale of Sebastien Squillaci.

...

The 30-year-old, who joined Sevilla from Lyonspacer.gifin 2008, is reportedly valued at 8 million Euros, but Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodriguez insists a deal has not been stuck yet.

"The player asked not to play because of the offer from such a big team but, for the moment, we believe the offer is insufficient and Squillaci is still a Sevilla player," said Rodriguez after the La Liga outfit's 1-0 defeat at Braga on Wednesday.

Sevilla added a statement on their official website: "Sebastien Squillaci's future is in the air."

"As was confirmed by sporting director Ramon Rodriguez at the airport in Porto, the club have received an offer from Arsenal.

"The player asked coaches not to play him in the match."

Is he any good? I've heard his name but never noticed him do anything special at the big stage unsure.gif .. what qualities does he have? Is he a leader like Campbell,Terry,Gallas, Carra etc?

Fulham have asked for Arsenal striker Carlos Vela plus cash from the Gunners in exchange for Mark Schwarzer.

The two London clubs have reached deadlock in their negotiations because Arsenal are unwilling to match Fulham's ?4 million valuation of the 37-year-old goalkeeper.

Arsenal had a ?2m bid rejected for Schwarzer in May and have not made a further offer, although it is understood that the two clubs are still in talks.

"They have different valuations of Schwarzer," a source close to the transfer told Goal.com UK.

"Arsenal don't want to pay the ?4m that Fulham want but one possibility is a player exchange deal to push it through."

Hughes is a t***.. no way this is happening..

Sky Sports News understands Arsenal have failed with a second bid for Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.

The Gunners saw an offer knocked back by the Cottagers in May and have received short shrift once again in their latest approach.

It is believed that the terms offered by Arsenal were the same as those put on the table earlier in the summer, with a ?2million bid believed to have been put forward.

Fulham remain reluctant to do business at that price, despite Schwarzer making it clear that he wants to move on.

The Australia international has admitted that the opportunity to move to Emirates Stadium would be too good to turn down and recently put in a transfer request.

Loic Remy has put the finishing touches to his move to Marseille, penning a five-year contract.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions revealed on Thursday that they had reached an agreement with Nice for the highly-rated frontman.

Remy has since passed a medical at Stade Velodrome and put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal.

It is believed that Marseille have parted with a sum in the region of ?15million (?12.3m) in order to get their man.

The move brings to an end a summer-long transfer saga regarding Remy's future, with various clubs having been linked with the striker over recent months.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed that William Gallas is set to join the club and described the move as a 'no-brainer'.

The French defender was released by Arsenal at the end of last season and is now on the brink of joining the Gunners' arch North London rivals.

Gallas, 33, will undergo a medical at White Hart Lane on Friday afternoon ahead of moving on a one-year contract.

Redknapp has opted to go for the France international to bolster his options in central defence, with Jonathan Woodgate still out with a long-term groin injury and Ledley King plagued with knee problems.

The Spurs boss admits he did not have to think too hard about securing the services of the former Chelsea man, who he confirmed is on the verge of completing his switch.

"He's a no-brainer on a free transfer," said Redknapp.

The centre-back's wage demands - reportedly ?80,000 per week - were thought to have been behind his departure from the Emirates Stadium, as manager Arsene Wenger was not prepared to break the bank to keep him.

Redknapp denies that Gallas' wage requirements at Tottenham are beyond reasonable and says he will not be on a ridiculous salary.

He added: "He's never asked for big money here.

"The chairman's agreed a one-year contract with him and the wages are more than reasonable."

West Ham co-owner David Gold admits that the club would be forced to sell Matthew Upson if they received a substantial offer for the England defender.

The centre-half is out of contract at the end of the season and both Gold and fellow co-owner David Sullivan are wary that Upson could leave Upton Park on a free transfer.

Gold told the Daily Star: "We want to keep Matt here, but at the same time we know we may have to sell him if he tells us he doesn't want to stay.

"We don't want to let him leave the club for nothing. It's a difficult balancing act and a dilemma for us.

"If someone came in and bid ?6million or ?7million for him, we would have to sell."

The Hammers chief insists that while several Premier League clubs have shown an interest in the former Birmingham defender, he has not given up hope of Upson signing a new deal.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has revealed out-of-favour midfielder Alberto Aquilani is set to return to Italy.

The injury-hit playmaker has struggled to make an impact after moving to Anfield from Roma and discussions are under way for him to return to his home country.

The 26-year-old was signed by former Reds manager Rafa Benitez as a replacement for the influential Xabi Alonso but his first season on Merseyside was hampered by injuries.

Aquilani had a history of injury problems when he joined in a reported ?20million deal and it was more than two months into last season before he made his debut for the club.

Aquilani was left out of Liverpool's squad for Thursday night's UEFA Europa League play-off against Trabzonspor and Hodgson admits he will probably be loaned out to a Serie A side.

Hodgson said: "At the moment we are considering possibly loaning him to an Italian club, but nothing is sure about that yet so I don't have anything definite to report.

"I didn't want to use him (against Trabzonspor) just in case the loan goes through, because for Aquilani this year it's very important that he plays regular football, every week, as the number one man on the teamsheet.

"I can't promise him that here so if a loan move to Italy could help him in that respect it might be good for all parties.

"It would certainly be what he needs, it would certainly protect the value of the player and when he does return to Liverpool no doubt we will see the Aquilani that we signed before he came here injured last year."

The agent of Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani claims that he is working on the details of a potential loan move to Juventus.

A series of injuries have meant that Aquilani has failed to meet expectations at Anfield after former manager Rafa Benitez paid Roma a reported ?20million last summer.

Current boss Roy Hodgson confirmed after omitting the 26-year-old from Thursday's 1-0 win over Trabzonspor in Europa League qualifying that he wants to loan the Italian to a club in his homeland.

And according to Aquilani's representative, Franco Zavaglia, Juventus have made an approach and discussions are taking place regarding a possible conclusion.

Zavaglia told tuttojuve: "Juventus have made an offer and it is very exciting. We are working with both parties to settle things quickly.

"I don't know when we will close the deal, it still lacks some details."

Crystal Palace have confirmed they have agreed terms to sign Dutch star Edgar Davids on a pay-as-you-play deal.

The former Holland international, 37, has not played competitive football since leaving Ajax at the end of the 2007/08 season.

He almost joined Leicester last October but will now pull on his boots again for their Championship rivals Palace.

The former AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona and Inter Milan star has been back in training in anticipation of a return to the game.

And Davids insists he is not taking his return to action lightly as he believes the Championship is far stronger than its counterparts in Italy and Spain.

"I'm sharp and fit," Davids told Sky Sports News. "I've been training with Ajax the last few weeks.

"The Championship is one of the strongest leagues in the world, after the Premier League.

"If you look at the Serie A and Serie B, and at the Primera Division and the league under that, they're not as strong as the Championship.

Fulham manager Mark Hughes said Arsenal's pursuit of Mark Schwarzer is unsettling the goalkeeper.

The Gunners, who had a ?2m bid turned down in May, repeated the offer on Thursday, according to Hughes.

Schwarzer handed in a transfer request this week but Hughes said he wants the 37-year-old to stay at Craven Cottage.

"Mark is aware of the interest of Arsenal. That knowledge is distracting and disruptive. It's not at all inevitable he will leave," said Hughes.

"We wouldn't encourage an improved bid."

The Australia international was omitted from Fulham's squad to face Bolton for the first game of the season last week, although Hughes said injury was to blame for the keeper's absence.

However, Hughes is reluctant to sell Schwarzer, who has a wealth of Premier League experience having made 450 appearances over 13 years.

"There wasn't an improved offer from Arsenal - it was exactly the same one that was put forward in May," said the Welshman.

"The situation hasn't moved on. There's been contact but no improved offer.

"I don't know if Arsenal are trying to disrupt him. There are many things clubs, players and agents do to unsettle players."

Schwarzer joined Fulham in May 2008, leaving Middlesbrough after 11 years at the club and has played 100 times for the Cottagers.

He caught the eye last season with a string of impressive performances as Fulham reached the Europa League final, eventually losing 2-1 to Atletico Madrid

F off Hughes!

Besides..

Fulham have reportedly claimed that Arsenal have now made two bids for their 37-year-old keeper but Wenger remained tight-lipped when the issue was raised at his pre-match press conference.

"I am not responsible for the Fulham statements," said the Frenchman.

"I never speak about the transfers, the offers, anything made about the players, because we have so many talks in football that are never concluded.

"It is always simple if you want to buy a player and the club doesn't agree: they say no so there is not a lot to talk about."

Sneijder has said he wants Kuyt to join Inter.. mad.gif

I hate this.. since when do players have anything to do with who comes in or goes out of a team? Ppl blame the media but the media (not tabloids) report only what the players say.. if asked abt a transfer they can refuse to answer and say its smth the manager should answer but they open their mouths.. first it was just the Barca clowns but seems now everyone is getting involved..

Marseille is set to sign France striker Andre-Pierre Gignac from Toulouse, but Loic Remy's debut for the French champion has been put on hold after a medical examination revealed a heart problem.

Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier said on Friday that the club reached an agreement in principle with Toulouse over the transfer of Gignac.

However, the news was overshadowed by health concerns over Remy, who signed a five-year contract on Thursday after moving from Nice in a deal worth a reported $20 million Cdn.

"We've decided to not play Loic Remy tomorrow (against Lorient) because MRIs yesterday evening showed a small problem," Dassier said. "The news this morning is encouraging but we made this decision because the player's health is what matters most."

The medical examination revealed a heart "abnormality," explained Christophe Baudot, the club's doctor.

"It's a mechanical problem," Baudot said. "More tests are scheduled for Monday so that we can give clear answers to Loic. He will play only when all the doubts are removed."

Remy said he never felt any specific pain throughout his career.

"I can't wait to be done with this and show on the pitch how proud I am to be here," Remy said.

The 24-year-old Gignac was the top striker in the French league in the 2008-09 season with 24 goals. A groin injury hampered him last season as he scored only eight league goals.

"I consider him the player in the French league with the greatest potential up front," Marseille coach Didier Deschamps said.

Toulouse currently leads the French league after winning its first two games while Marseille is yet to win a point.

Gignac will undergo a medical this weekend.

Marseille had been keen to strengthen its attack after the summer departures of Fernando Morientes, Bakari Kone, Mamadou Samassa and Senegal forward Mamadou Niang, the top striker in the French league last season.

Skysports.com understands that Liverpool have made bid for PSV Eindhoven forward Ola Toivonen.

Sources in Holland believe that the Premier League Reds have tabled an offer in the region ?9million to the current Eredivisie leaders.

The 24-year-old Sweden international has caught the eye of Roy Hodgson, as revealed by skysports.com earlier in the week, with the Liverpool manager looking to increase the attacking support for Fernando Torres.

However, Toivonen has refused to speculate over his future and it had been rumoured that Liverpool would reduce their interest if the forward was cup-tied in Europe.

He played in PSV's Europa League outing against Sibir Novosibirsk on Thursday, but Hodgson is still understood to have gone ahead with his bid.

Liverpool's Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani is to join Juventus on a one-year loan, pending a medical.

The two clubs have agreed a deal for the 26-year-old, who cost the Anfield outfit ?20m from Roma last summer.

Aquilani has struggled for form and fitness since arriving as a replacement for Xabi Alonso and will undergo a medical in Italy on Monday.

    • An actual cosmic "Eye of Sauron" had been looking straight at us all along by Sayan Sen Image by Kovin P. Vasquez via Pexels | Not representative An international team of researchers has solved a long-standing mystery surrounding a distant blazar known as PKS 1424+240, helping explain why it produces some of the brightest high-energy gamma rays and cosmic neutrinos ever observed despite appearing to have a relatively slow-moving jet. The findings were published on June 6 in Astronomy & Astrophysics Letters. The study addresses a broader challenge in astrophysics: understanding how extreme cosmic objects accelerate particles to very high energies and produce very high-energy (VHE) photons and neutrinos. PKS 1424+240 is located billions of light-years from Earth. It has attracted attention for years because it is both a powerful source of VHE gamma rays and the brightest known neutrino-emitting blazar in the sky, according to observations by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. It is also associated with one of the strongest peaks in IceCube's nine-year neutrino sky map A blazar is a type of active galactic nucleus powered by a supermassive black hole that pulls in surrounding matter and launches jets of plasma moving close to the speed of light. What makes blazars unique is their orientation. One of their jets points almost directly toward Earth, making them appear exceptionally bright across the electromagnetic spectrum and allowing scientists to study some of the most extreme physical processes in the Universe. The scientists exclaimed it's like the 'Eye of Sauron' in deep space. Usually, the brightest gamma-ray-emitting blazars are expected to have jets that appear to move very quickly. However, radio observations of PKS 1424+240 suggested that its jet was moving much more slowly, creating a contradiction that became part of a long-running problem known as the "Doppler factor crisis." To investigate, researchers analyzed 15 years of observations from the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), a network of 10 radio antennas spread across the continental United States, Hawaii and St. Croix. Using a technique called Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), astronomers combine signals from widely separated radio telescopes to create a virtual Earth-sized telescope capable of revealing extremely fine details. The team combined 42 polarization-sensitive radio images collected between 2009 and 2025, creating a much deeper and more detailed view of the jet than had previously been possible. The observations were carried out as part of MOJAVE (Monitoring Of Jets in Active galactic nuclei with VLBA Experiments), a long-running program that studies the brightness, polarization and magnetic field structures of jets produced by active galaxies. The project aims to better understand how activity near supermassive black holes is linked to high-energy radiation and neutrino emission. “When we reconstructed the image, it looked absolutely stunning,” said Yuri Kovalev, lead author of the study and Principal Investigator of the European Research Council-funded MuSES project at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “We have never seen anything quite like it — a near-perfect toroidal magnetic field with a jet, pointing straight at us.” The image revealed an unusual geometry. The researchers found that Earth lies almost directly in line with the jet, with a viewing angle of less than 0.6 degrees. In simple terms, astronomers are looking almost straight down the jet. This turned out to be the key to the mystery. Because the jet is aimed almost directly at Earth, a relativistic effect called Doppler boosting dramatically increases its apparent brightness. The study found that this effect boosts the emission by a factor of about 30 while also making the jet appear slower than it actually is. “This alignment causes a boost in brightness by a factor of 30 or more,” said Jack Livingston, a co-author at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy. “At the same time, the jet appears to move slowly due to projection effects — a classic optical illusion.” The nearly head-on view also gave scientists a rare look at the jet's magnetic field. Using polarized radio signals, they detected a clear toroidal, or doughnut-shaped, magnetic field component. The observations suggest the jet carries an electric current and that its magnetic field helps launch, shape and stabilize the flow of plasma. Researchers believe this magnetic structure may also play a key role in accelerating particles to energies high enough to produce both gamma rays and neutrinos. “Solving this puzzle confirms that active galactic nuclei with supermassive black holes are not only powerful accelerators of electrons, but also of protons — the origin of the observed high-energy neutrinos,” Kovalev said. The research was conducted under the MuSES (Multi-messenger Studies of Energetic Sources) project, which investigates how active galactic nuclei accelerate particles and generate different cosmic signals, including light and neutrinos. Scientists say understanding how protons are accelerated and linked to neutrino production remains one of the major unanswered questions in astrophysics. The findings help explain why some blazars can appear to have slow jets while still producing extremely bright high-energy emissions. More broadly, the study strengthens the link between relativistic jets, magnetic fields, gamma rays and high-energy neutrinos. Researchers say the results provide new clues about how some of the Universe's most powerful natural particle accelerators work and offer important insights for multimessenger astronomy, which combines different types of cosmic signals to study extreme events in space.
