Games with Gold: Hitman (2016) and Earth Defense Force 2025 are now free

Microsoft has pushed out another wave of bonus Games with Gold titles for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. This wave is the first half of games announced for the month of September, with Hitman: The Complete First Season available for Xbox One owners while Earth Defense Force 2025 can be claimed by Xbox 360 owners.

Also, since Earth Defense Force 2025 is part of Microsoft's Xbox One Backward Compatibility Program, the game is available to those on the modern console to claim and play natively.

Use the two games' store pages below to add them directly to a Gold activated account:

Hitman: The Complete First Season (Xbox One)

Featuring all of the Season One locations and episodes from the Prologue, Paris, Sapienza, Marrakesh, Bangkok, Colorado, and Hokkaido. As Agent 47, you will perform contract hits on powerful, high-profile targets in an intense spy-thriller story across a world of assassination.

Earth Defense Force 2025 (Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Eight years since the defeat of the alien invasion and the destruction of the Mothership, civilization recovered most of the prosperity it once had. In 2025 a new state of emergency arises as giant aliens and insects are discovered deep underground. The Ravagers have evolved, and are stronger than ever. The Earth Defense Force must now stand up to these terrifying creatures to save humanity once more!

Forza Motorsport 6, from the previous Games with Gold promotion, is still on the freebie list for Xbox One owners. The game's free slot will be taken over by the cooperative puzzle game We Were Here on September 16.

As a reminder, Xbox One titles claimed through a Games with Gold promotion are only playable whenever the player's account has an active Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Claimed Xbox 360 games, meanwhile, will remain fully playable even if the subscription runs out.
