It's been a while since Apple has done something about the Dynamic Island. While the bathtub notch that Apple introduced with the iPhone X in 2017 is still offered on the iPhone 16e today, Apple's premium models do not feature the Dynamic Island, which debuted in 2022.
In the past, rumors have suggested that the iPhone 18 Pro models could eliminate the Dynamic Island and adopt an under-display Face ID. This would mean that although not all-screen, the device could feature a punch-hole like most of the Android phones. But the latest information from a reliable leaker suggests otherwise.
According to leaker Instant Digital on Weibo, next year's iPhones, though, will see a narrower Dynamic Island, but will not come with an under display front camera or Face ID. Here's what the leaker has to say (via Google Translate):
The iPhone 18 series is just a little narrower pill, not a single shot, and there is no under-screen Face ID and under-screen camera.
The iPhone 17 series was also expected to shrink the Dynamic Island, but that did not happen. While the devices received multiple other upgrades, such as a new back design, upgraded cameras, and a new sibling in the form of iPhone Air, a full-screen iPhone still appears to be a distant dream.
But all hope is not lost, as rumors are hinting that the purported iPhone foldable might debut with an under-display Face ID and camera. Apple is expected to launch the foldable iPhone and iPad in 2026 and 2028. The Cupertino-based company has reportedly managed to get rid of the display crease and would feature a display never used in a foldable before.
