i just found a Nikon D3200 with 18-55mm + 55 - 200mm telephoto zoom lens for ?379. it's on sale for only a few more days, and was wondering, if it's worth buying, i'm going to be travelling in a few months and probably taking a lot of pictures and video, but don't really have the money for the camera just yet. is it worth it? should i find the money and get it? or wait / find a different camera? http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras/digital-cameras/dslr-cameras/nikon-d3200-dslr-camera-with-18-55-mm-55-200-mm-telephoto-zoom-lens-21324868-pdt.html

I have an entry-level Nikon D3100 DSLR camera with the included 18-55mm VR lens. In lowish light conditions (e.g. wedding dances indoors in the early evening (but not night)), I try to not use the flash and, whilst the photos rarely blur because I increase the ISO, there is a lot of noise. I believe I need to let more light in. Can I do this by simply getting a bigger lens or will the body hold a bigger lens back?

- 3.3k views
I have owned my current DSLR for 2 years now and never really given it a clean out. I try and look after it the best I can by being quick with lens changed and in a clean area but as you know over a couple of years bits of dust and marks appear out of nowhere. Do any of you guys have any recommendations on how to clean the camera, sensor and lens? Do Nikon make a little kit to use? Now I dont have loads of cash to be spending on this so cheap will always be a winner but I dont really want to be buy cheap china stuff thats going to do more damage then good. Its a Nikon D5100 with 18-55mm kit lens, 55-200mm kit lens 35mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.8. Any help would be …

Hey All, I am looking to purchase an entry level dslr camera but I am having a hard time making a decision. I have it narrowed down to 4 cameras and would love your input. My budget is between $500-$700. Nikon D3300 Pros: Newer model, Can find housing for underwater, Cons: Not weather proof Nikon D5200 Pros: Same/Similar price to D3300, more focus points than D3300, can find housing for underwater Cons: Not weather proof, Older Model Nikon D5300 Pros: Best camera Cons: Most expensive on my list Pentax K-50 Pros: Appears to be the best camera for the price on paper, 100% viewfinder coverage, faster max shutter speed, Weather proof(ish) Cons: Re…

DSLR Dilemma
by Polarman- 21 replies

I've decided to sell my P&S (SX50 HS) to go back to the dslr crowd. The SX50 was pretty neat but I found the image quality not to my satisfaction. There was some other inconveniences also... ? Buying a new camera... OMG where to start. Oh yea, price range first. Around 1200$ So my quest begins. Also keep in mind that i generaly take stills not videos. Sony - Panasonic I already know about the Sony RX10 and the Panasonic FZ-1000. They both look pretty cool for a P&S with dslr'esque bulkiness and 1 inch sensor. They may have advantage of all-in-one fixed lens with f/2.8 to f/4 aperture. but what if i want f/22? and image quality cannot rival…

We are the eyes that see

Just wanted to share a project.. As photographers we are the eyes. This is very powerfull, because we can guide the hands and feet to action. The below mentioned shoot is very much an example of someone taking the time to see. To do something more, and to make aware to the hands and feet, that there are people out there this winter, with less, that have a need for more. The Shoot is called Hilton's home - Link as follows: http://www.creatographylabs.com/hiltons-home/ http://www.creatographylabs.com/wp-content/gallery/hilton-1/IMG_5030.jpg We can maybe open a topic, that is called something like, the eyes that see... for people to share the things close…

nikon d3200 New DSLR owner 1 2
by Matthew S.- 30 replies
- 6.2k views
Hi All, Just purchased my father a new DSLR for fathers day (he will actually be receiving it either this week or next). My mother and I bought him the Nikon D3200 18-55mm kit and it also includes the 55-200mm nikor lens. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for accessories, he owns a Nikon F-301 (N2000, from the 80's :P) with a 55mm nikor "puck" and a *can't remember brand* telephoto lens. This will be his first DSLR.

CR2 (Canon RAW photo) Repair? (NOT recovery, I need to fix the files)
by Glassed Silver- 7 replies

Heya guys, someone please do some namedropping for a couple of softwares that can fix corrupted CR2 files. :p Any OS will do, I'm willing to try "all there is" so I accept any platform really. Thanks for helping in advance! Glassed Silver:mac PS: I'm not willing to send the files away unless this is the VERY LAST option (like an online service). We're talking about 10 pictures. (I got some pictures in various states (different hash sums)) Reason of corruption? I don't really know. Just drop me the names of the programs, I'll do the testing. :p

Camera Recommendation 1 2
by techbeck- 38 replies
- 5.1k views
Looking for a camera that takes good/decent pics as well as a decent optical zoom. Nothing top of the line and I will not be taking professional pics. However, I do want to get close to subjects without having to get to close. For example, we have some nice look animals/birds around where I live and I cannot get up close to take pics without scaring them away. Recommendations? Thanks!

Had a hard drive go south prior to backup of a wedding. Am in desperate need. Recovered from original media card the CR2 files I shot; was near 800 in all. All but 100 of them are corrupted as recovered from the CF card. They are all recognized as CR2 files in Explorer and even have the correct file sizes. But neither Lightroom, Canon Photo Utility, Photoshop or any other editors will open them. I've tried ExiftTool to extract JPGs, got file format errors. I have a Hex Editor but can't make heads or tails of what I'm looking at. I'm out of options and don't want to have to tell this couple I have lost their photos. Anyone out there have experience with repairing this type…

Metering off the palm of your hand.
by Colin.B- 12 replies

I didn't start getting the hang of armchair photography until I took a photography course at college. During the course I learned a lot of useful information and discovered that yes, like everything, the more I did it the better I got (within reason...I still wouldn't attempt to sell any of my prints ha ha!) One thing I've taken issue with however is the "metering off the palm of your hand" when you do not have a grey card. The instructor told us it is the next best thing. However, when I do meter off my hand, the image is almost over exposed. I'm holding my hand up, focusing and adjusting until the exposure value is 0. Am I doing it wrong?
