Having XRay doesn't make gathering most resources any different. It makes getting stuff like Diamonds easier sure, but you still have to grind to get stone, diorite, granite, sand etc which is what makes up most of any build.

At this point however there is no point in continuing this discussion. Despite their being a majority of players who are OK with XRay it has been banned.

Where does it say that Xray itself has been banned?

Flying is banned. Mining under other people's space is banned. But: You can still use Xray under your own space or free space on the map, seeing how it's a client mod, therefore a ban cannot be enforced.

Mining under other peoples spaces has always been a no-no, and most players didn't do that AFAIK. Although, as I mentioned earlier, without a map it's tricky to be sure you aren't - but that's bye-the-bye.

Like I said before, the majority of players that I have discussed this with are OK with the full use of XRay (subject to not strip mining under someones base obv.), yet it has still effectively been banned to all intents and purposes. Maybe my sample is biased, but that is what I see. Let's also not fool ourselves, if there was a way the server could detect or disable XRay (many mods listen for a MOTD message, XRay doesn't) then that would likely have been implemented by now.

I would suggest that if a clear majority of active players are OK with the full use of XRay, then we allow the full use of XRay (subject to not mining anothers base, that rule is fine with me).

If there are enough players that still want to be on the server, but are that unhappy with XRay, we could set aside a region (maybe the NW quarter from spawn) that is a no-fly zone.

You know, what you're asking for is 'can we play creative on what we wanted to be a survival server?'

Most of you voted for survival. Then play survival. No one can prevent you from using the resource finding feature of Xray, but flying? No.

I really dont care either way

I come on to have a laugh and have some fun with the other guys on the server

If you steal my stuff i will hunt you down and kick your ass :P lol

but when it all comes down to it....ITS A GAME!!!

I am not asking for Creative. I don't like playing Creative, it gets boring quickly. I have never done any of my big builds using creative on any of the 3 Neowin MC servers (with the exception of the Airport, but that was huge) I have been involved with so far.

You say that most of us voted Survival, so we got Survival. Fair enough. However, now most of us are now voting (at least out of those I've discussed the matter with) to allow the use of the XRay mod as well. Why doesn't that count?

I am not trying to be a trouble maker, I am not trying to stir up tensions. I'm just trying to understand the rationale behind decisions.

The rationale is this:

First off, Dahrken and I had some suspicions. Some of you made progress a bit too fast to play vanilla. Nothing could be proven though.

Then Crisp posted the screenshots where the F3 information clearly said '1.8/XRay'. I don't know, but when you play without said mod and struggle to gather iron while others have diamond blocks you feel betrayed.

Lastly other users voiced their dissatisfaction with people flying around. This is where I decided to put a stop to that at least. As said before - there is no way I can stop you from using the mod to mine. But I can mandate a no-fly zone. If you want to shorten the travel distances, feel free to build an underground railway or set up 'travel agents'.

Clear enough?

Clear enough?

To be honest, not really.

When it first came to light you asked all the players on the server at the time if they were OK with it. It was a resounding YES, so you said fair enough, continue. Then a couple players moaned, and the decision was reversed. It seems that the wishes of a couple players are overruling the wishes of a majority. That doesn't seem fair.

At this point I'm done discussing this unless any other players care to chime in on either side. As I have already stated I will abide by whatever decision is made. Even if XRay was outright (with an admittedly unenforceable) banned, I would honour that.

Whatever the outcome, no hard feelings. :)

<bro hug>

I haven't chimed in because I don't really care either way. I don't use the mod and I don't care if others do. So if people want it banned, I'll just go with the flow, same if it is allowed. I'm fairly far out from spawn, so I generally never see anyone, let alone have people flying over my home.

As long as anyone using the mod is being respectful, not mining and hording all the ores, not flying in to destroy builds or steal items, then it doesn't affect my game in the slightest. I enjoy the challenge of looking for diamonds, collecting my resources and fighting mobs. I like to look at others builds, but I don't really feel upset if they have progressed faster than me. I don't have a big house (in fact I have a wooden shack), but I have built a slime farm and a XP/Gold farm, so I'm happy with my progress.

On another note, I found a dungeon where someone had destroyed the spawner   That's just wrong!

:)

Dungeons have a mob spawner in them, the walls are made of mossy cobblestone, and there will be a couple of chests with loot.

If I find a dungeon I usually leave the spawner, but surround it with torches. No point in breaking the spawner. Would be nice if we could pick them up.

I haven't played on the server in a long time, and probably won't play for a long time.

However, I personally don't agree with the mod, it also puts me off coming back as IMO if you want a vanilla survival server then any mods that aid the player in anyway like this is pointless. If it's not part of the core game then why use it, it just takes away from the word survival for me.

just my 2 cents regardless of whether I'm playing or not.

From what I read from Meph, it is fairly clear.

X-Ray, because we cannot regulate it at present is a basis of don't mention you're using it and we will look the other way.

Flying in any form excluding moderator use is not allowed.

The two are not linked in any way. At all.

Dungeons have a mob spawner in them, the walls are made of mossy cobblestone, and there will be a couple of chests with loot.

ok that confirmed it i have never found one :(

I think that's a terrible decision.  While I understand from a server owners perspective as I too have a Vanilla server, I hands down say X-ray is not allowed.  Not this 'We can't control it so it's fine unless we catch you do it'.  You either ban it or you don't, you need to make it clear to people that it's unacceptable.

Survival + Flying + X-Ray != Creative Mode

It's a weird mash-up of both. You still have to mine, you still need to farm and resources are still limited.

Stuff can be stolen whether or not this mod is in use, and I'm not sure why stealing came into the debate about flying.

I would go as far as saying x-ray takes away from the game more than flying if anything. Before flying, I hardly bumped into other players at all, and during, I finally managed to get a gauge for the world's layout in absence of a map.

I'm not begging for it back, I'm surprised it was taken away to be honest, there seem to be far more people happy to use flying than a smaller, more vocal minority.

It's not part of the core game and survival was voted for, that's a fact. But if the majority of players were using the mod, doesn't that mean to say, that the majority of players wanted Survival + Flying + X-Ray?

Anyway, if flying stays banned, I won't be coming back, which is a shame, because I only just joined in the last week!

P.S. wasn't impressed when a mod decided to kill off most of my chickens and walked off with them. I was stood right there and I could have done it myself, if only I were asked to! I had to ask for them back.

Furthermore, I had clearly stated before this event that I'd culled most of them off earlier on to see if it would improve the lag problems, which I stated that it had not, and this also went ignored.

That's 27% off and $90 saved for a solid Wi-Fi solution that covers your entire home (purchase link down below). The 2-pack covers up to 4,000 square feet (372 square meters) and supports 100+ connected devices, which handles the vast majority of home setups without breaking a sweat. Wi-Fi 6E brings access to the 6 GHz band for lower latency across the network, and the 2.5 Gb Ethernet port supports gigabit+ internet plans if your ISP offers them. eero's TrueMesh technology handles traffic routing automatically, so you're not manually managing which devices connect to which node. You set up the entire thing through the eero app, and the entire process takes a few minutes. The system also receives automatic security updates in the background, so once you set it up, you don't have to worry about compatibility issues. If you're covering a larger home or want more nodes, the 3-pack is $329.99 and the 4-pack is $479.98, both at similar discount levels. It's worth mentioning that a newer model exists, which is likely the reason for the discount, but the Pro 6E is still perfectly capable hardware for most homes. • Ladybird Browser is no longer accepting outside contributions thanks to AI by David Uzondu The Ladybird Browser Project has announced it will no longer accept public pull requests and will limit changes to those made by its maintainers as it works towards its first alpha release. According to Ladybird's creator Andreas Kling, this is "not a change we make lightly," but the rapid shift in AI capabilities forced their hand. Previously, a massive PR implied that the person behind it put a lot of care into the code and is ready to "answer for the consequences." Now with AI, anyone can generate a PR without even understanding the bug fix or feature they want merged. The blog post goes on to say that the team is closing all open public pull requests immediately, and that maintainers will not treat external forks as a review queue for upstream Ladybird. Instead, the team wants outside contributors to focus on reporting bugs and running tests. Kling started Ladybird back in 2019 as LibHTML, a simple HTML viewer for his hobby operating system, SerenityOS, but by September 2022, it had turned into a full-fledged browser project. What sets Ladybird apart from the likes of Google Chrome, Apple Safari, or Mozilla Firefox is its totally independent engine, which does not rely on pre-existing codebases. The project maintains a strict policy against default search engine deals or user data monetization, keeping development funded entirely by donations and sponsorships. Generative AI is forcing open source project maintainers to rethink how they handle public code contributions (and the whole open-source thing in general). One month ago, a leak about the National Health Service (NHS) suggested the organization was planning to take all of its public repositories private ahead of a May 11 deadline, thanks to Mythos (an AI model that Anthropic believes is too dangerous to be released to the public) and its ability to find and write exploits for zero-day vulnerabilities. Thankfully, the Government Digital Service (GDS) issued a counter-report titled "AI, open code and vulnerability risk in the public sector" that stopped the shutdown by pointing out that hiding code does not improve security.

    • I like the show more options. The only problem with it is that it's not always in a consistent spot in the menu. If the copy/paste/cut, happens to show on top, then more option is the last in the menu. But if copy/paste/cut happens to show on the bottom, then more options is before the copy/paste/cut. But I do like the more options because it hides the stuff that I rarely use. But I would like to choose what it is or isn't hiding. That would make it better.
