What was the last movie you watched? (2013 Edition)

Four Lions

5/5 Very funny film. Laughs from beginning to end. Non UK'ers may not get some of the humour though.

Finally got around to watching The Possession. Actually thought it was a good horror film.

Yeah, it was good.

Django Unchained. Christop Waltz was again excellent, I'm glad Will Smith turned the part of Django down as well, just can't see him in the role myself. Great movie.

The not so amazing spiderman

3/5

Totally useless reboot of a 10 yo movie. Sam Raimi's Spiderman is superior in about every possible ways. Only good thing about the new one is Emma Stone. She is magnificent as usual.

I wish i could get my 2 hours back.

Cloud Atlas (yeah it was only just released here )

Was very good (well I thought so) but give it a 3/5, because I feel you really need to read the book to fully understand what the hell was going on. However, considering they had basically 6 movies worth of content to cram into 1, so alot had to give, over all it was a noble effort in my books (Y)

Movies I remember seeing lately (within the last month I guess):

Dredd - 7 / 10 - Better than expected.

Total Recall - 4 / 10 - Worse than expected (I expected average)

Life of Pi - 8.5 / 10 - Very strong story, enjoyed it

Perks of Being a Wallflower - 7.5 / 10 - I think I'd like it better if I were a teenager, not bad.

Flight - 6 / 10 - Boring, but good acting and a follow-able story.

Silver Lining Playbook - 6 / 10 - Boring, I can't tell why this is so endeared.

Argo - 4 / 10 - Extremely boring, and I generally like these clever movies, fell asleep (rare).

Ted - 7 / 10 - a little too much and should have been called 'Brian'

Wreck it Ralph - 7.5 / 10 - cute, liked it.

Looper - 6.5 / 10 - Meh, plot-holes a-plenty

This is 40 - 7 / 10 - Pretty funny, laid back comedy is always nice to enjoy.

Dark Knight Rises - 7 / 10 - the caliber of this was just nowhere near the previous entry.

Prometheus - 3 / 10 - What kind of crap is this? I could have not watched it and knew just as much about it.

Here Comes the Boom - 5.5 / 10 - It's exactly what I expected.

I should be a critic, this was fun to do lol.

    • Yes, I actually glossed over the Linux part from the OP. You could always go for a 9070 XT and if you really want to play Ray Traced games in the future, GeForce Now is pretty damn good on Linux https://www.neowin.net/news/nvidias-native-geforce-now-app-for-linux-bridges-the-gaming-gap-hands-on/
    • One reason it might be running hotter is dust build up within the cooling or perhaps the paste has dried out. You could always try repasting your old GPU and cleaning the cooler. Your experience in Linux will be much better with an AMD GPU; the performance in gaming is much closer to Windows than nVidia would be. I personally think on Windows, AMD drivers are junk.
    • I reviewed it back in March, but I didn't have a 5070 at the time https://www.neowin.net/reviews/amd-rx-9070-review-vs-rtx-5070-4070-and-rx-9070-xt-7800-xt--just-good-enough/ When I reviewed the 9070 I did have a 5070 to compare it against, so the scores are there for the 9070 XT. it outperforms the 5070 in raster, and is barely neck and neck in Ray Tracing. So it's better than a 5070 in everything but Ray Tracing where it is neck and neck, or just under. To be honest, the uplift from 3080 when it was new to the 9070 XT is not as great a step up. If you can find a used 4080 Super for around the same money, you would probably be better off, but if you only want to buy new then the 16GB 9070 XT is the best value for money in its category.
    • I really hope the author's health is ok. Squirreling away a official backup of this software. Looks like the internet archive already cached a copy as well - https://web.archive.org/web/20...ldbit-soft.fi/software.html
    • AMD is supported out of the box in linux because of their open source driver. Nvidia does not. All my systems are amd and all of them work nicely on linux arch without doing anything.
