Today at Computex 2019, Dell unveiled its next-generation XPS 15 laptop. Once again not fixing what's not broken, it's in the same chassis as it's been in for years. This also means that it keeps the pin port for charging, still not including the 130W USB Type-C charger that comes with the XPS 15 2-in-1.
It now includes Intel's ninth-generation H-series Core processors, going up to a Core i9. That means that for the first time, you can get an octa-core CPU in a Dell XPS laptop. It also comes with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPU, a big performance boost from the last generation's GTX 1050 Ti.
Also for the first time on an XPS laptop, you can get it configured with a 4K OLED display. That means that you'll get true blacks and more vibrant colors. With a black background on your screen, you won't be able to see where the screen ends and the tiny InfinityEdge bezels begin. If you go the 4K route, you'll be able to choose from UltraSharp 4K at 500 nits with touch and OLED 4K at 400 nits without touch, the difference of which can be seen above. There's also a 1080p model, which can get up to 20.5 hours of battery life.
It also includes support for Wi-Fi 6, promising that the Killer AX1650 is three times as fast as 802.11ac. And of course, the webcam is now above the display, sacrificing facial recognition to get it there. It does have a fingerprint sensor in the power button though.
You can configure it with up to 64GB Dual Channel DDR4 2666MHz RAM and 2TB PCIe 3x4 SSD. It weighs in at four pounds, and it's 17mm thin at its thickest point (11mm at its thinnest).
Dell says that the new XPS 15 is coming soon, starting at $999.99, although the OLED model will start at $1,899.99.
