Painkiller: Hell and Damnation enters closed beta

The Painkiller first person shooter series is getting yet another entry and if you are lucky, you could get invited to try out a pre-release version. Publisher Nordic Games has announced that it has started closed beta testing for the arcade shooter Painkiller: Hell and Damnation, which is being developed by The Farm 51.

People can sign up to be considered for the closed beta test at the game's official website. The closed beta will allow players to try out several of its game modes, including single player, Deatchmatch, Team Deathmatch and co-op.

The original Painkiller game came out in 2004 from developer People Can Fly and used the team's own in-house graphics engine. Many other games and expansion packs in the series have been released since then and have all used the same engine, but with the exception of the first Painkiller expansion pack none of them have been made by the original developer. Painkiller: Hell and Damnation is the first game in the series that will use another engine, Unreal Engine 3.

Nordic Games plans to release beta keys for the new Painkiller game via its Facebook page and the company's forums in the coming weeks. There's no word on when the game will be officially released.
