Power your house by...working out?

That's right; "Going Green" has officially reached a new level. The Green Revolution Inc released exercise bikes that double as electricity generators at the Ridgefield Fitness Club in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Basically it works by having a wire run from the bottom of the treadmill into an electrical control cabinet. The electrical control cabinet will pump the electricity back into the grid of the club.

The generated electricity from a single workout may not be much electricity (powering a laptop or light bulb for an hour is about right). And the company believes that just by using the bikes for a year would generate enough electricity to power 72 homes for an entire month.

The CEO of Green Revolution, Jay Whelan, estimates there are around 36,000 gyms in the United States and says that if all these gyms used this technology, the world would have a huge abundance of electricity.

Not a fan of the exercise bikes? No problem! The wire can be connected to just about any machine.

Americans, look for these bikes in your local gyms as Whelan says orders are rolling in. And Europeans, don't fret because The Green Revolution Inc is planning for a release into your market! Get healthy and go green. Everyone wins.
