Or drove a Bugatti Veyron, rather. Along Interstate 45 in Texas, to be precise, when he was distracted by a low-flying pelican (excuses, excuses), which caused him to veer off the road… and into a lagoon.

A salt-water lagoon. Lovely corrosive water, sloshing through all the expensive mechanical bits of your million-quid, 1000bhp hypercar.
VW now the world's largest automaker
German company was third until it added assets such as Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini
Nov 14, 2009
John LeBlanc
Special to the Star

A little over a year ago, Volkswagen passed Ford as the third-largest automaker in the world.

But now, by adding recently acquired Porsche's sales figures into the totals – which also include those for Bentley, Audi, Skoda, Seat and Lamborghini – the German behemoth has shot past Toyota to take over the crown as the world's largest automaker.

With 4.4 million cars built so far in 2009, VW has passed Toyota by about 400,000 cars.

Industry analysts attribute VW's surge to cutting production in half earlier this year, the closing of all its plants in February and Toyota's weakness in the cash-for-clunker programs in Europe, Brazil and China.

There's still some time until the final numbers get tallied at the end of December. And Toyota is expected to build more than seven million cars this year.

But as of now, VW officials can put the champagne on ice.
...
http://www.wheels.ca/newsandfeatures/consu...rgest-automaker

Something fell off my car?

Hi Neobahn!

I was driving to work this morning on the Motorway when I heard a nasty rattle like something was hanging off or scraping then suddenly it stopped and i saw something fly off the car onto the lane behind me (so obviously can't retrieve it on a busy motorway) - this all happened in the space of 5-7 seconds so couldn't do much about it. I thought it may have been one of the steel wheel caps but these are all intact, I think it may have just been the heat shield as this has been rattling when starting the engine cold but with no way to get it to a garage during the day is this the most likely cause.

It is still driving perfectly, I can't be fully sure it was even from my vehicle - just that it flew out of the back of it after a few seconds. Kinda worried now, so gonna have to try and get it home on the quiet roads tonight then find out what it is/was. Am i right in thinking it could have just been the heat shield falling from the exhaust though as it may have corroded over the years.

Car is a 1998 S Reg Nissan Micra Ally.

Distinctive Chrysler Sound

This question has been bothering me for a while and I can't find an answer by Yahooing it.

What's that noise that all Chrysler cars seem to make when they're stopping. It's sort of a whirring noise (maybe the power-steering?) that you can hear if you're walking by and a Chrysler pulls up to a stop sign. It seems to be unique to these cars and all of them seem to have it. Any ideas?

Car light problem?

Hi guys

I'm not sure if I have a problem with my car headlights or not.
Last night when I was out traveling around 60-65mph and cars coming the other way was flashing me as though I had my full beams on even though I didn't.
But then, went through a few other areas, travelling at 30mph then 40, no one flashed me then saying my lights were too bright, so is there a problem?
The car is a 1998 ford fiesta, the lights are factory standard, so are the bulbs, apart from I've had to replace the drivers side main beam light bulb twice, once recently and another probably last year.

Cheers
