Ive had this problem for about 2 weeks now and have been trying to fix it for awhile now.
Whenever I open a folder on my desktop explorer jumps to 25% and the folder takes roughly 30 seconds to open.
Sound Driver Blocked Because Vista Cannot Verify The Publisher

Hello everyone,

I have been trying to install drivers for my sound card, but Windows Vista cannot verify the publisher. Every time I click the option to install the software anyway, the window only pops back up again. I can never seem to get past it to install my driver, so I cannot get sound on my PC. The funny thing is, this is in fact a Vista driver! Does anyone know a way around this annoying Windows Vista security feature?

Thanks,

Jay Gordon

No communications tab?

Hey, every time I use a voice program like mumble Vista likes to adjust the volume of my other applications and it's very annoying having to reset them all back manually. I found out that there is a way to tell vista to stop doing this : http://blog.marcliron.com/tag/windows-7-communications-tab (this is for windows 7 but it's the same in vista).

The problem is, I don't have a communications tab. Anyone know what could be causing this or another way to disable this feature in vista?

Thanks
eviljedi

Explorer settings

Hi,
I've recently started using findexer, but ran into a problem. Whenever I use the win+e shortcut, explorer open in normally, except that it keep the folder view open. Which is quite a nuisance.

Likewise when I run explorer.exe it opens my documents with the folder view enabled.

But if I run explorer *location* it opens a new explorer window on the location, but without the folder view pane, as intended sort of.

I currently got around the issue, by having autohotkey direct win+e to explorer ::{20d04fe0-3aea-1069-a2d8-08002b30309d} instead. But that's merely a temporary means, and I don't like having extra applications running in the background when it's not necessary.

Could I ask, where does explorer store the basic settings which I could change to make sure that start explorer and win+e won't display the folder view pane? I presume somewhere in the registry.

Any help is welcomed

Problem with starting programs on 64 bit vista laptop.

My relative brought me their laptop to take a look at as she has been having problems with it.

it's a year old toshiba with vista home premium 64 bit. She said everything was working fine up until about a month ago.

It boots up just fine, but whenever you try to start almost any program you get this message:

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer’s system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

Some programs if you right click on them and run as an administrator they will run but others will not.

It's as if windows won't run programs because they are the wrong bit version.

She has norton 360 on there but it does not work and i can't start it up.

I was able to install the microsoft essentials security program. It will run if you right click on it and run as admin. It found these spyware: win32/remos.hs, win32/fakeScanti and said it cleaned them. I don't know if they were even part of the problem.

I enabled the main admin account and logged on with it but still got the same errors.

There are a lot of windows updates that have not been installed yet, which i will do, i did'nt have time to do it yet. I don't think though that this is the issue either.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Thanks.

BUT internet explorer would keep saying it couldn't display the page and gave the diagnostics button.

Took it back to our office and hooked up to wifi and ethernet and connected but couldn't get to any websites. Ran Malwarebytes and removed 1 infected file. Attempted to run Combofix but it tells me that the OS isn't supported? Pretty sure I've run Combofix on other Windows Vista Machines and it's worked. Ran HiJackTHIS! and found a lot of @Programfiles and tried to remove them but after a rescan they came back. Booted into Safe Mode and ran HJT and tried to remove the entries again, still couldn't. Ran CCLeaner and removed all Internet Explorer/Explorer files and tried to run Rootkit Revealer (dnloaded from filehippo.com) but when I try to run it, It crashes right away.

Do you guys have any suggestions on what to try?

He has TrendMicro Internet Security for AV.
