Is it me or is the Pope a modern Pharaoh?

Not too far off. But Pharaohs were considers Gods themselves, were they not? The Pope has almost a divinity-like respect but, not being Catholic, I couldn't answer how far that goes.

how so many people worship the pope really bugs me...and im Christian.

I mean last time he came to visit Melbourne, he walked out of a limo, strode on the red carpets towards the highest position on the field. When the ceremony ended, he was escorted out like a royal. I went there because my girlfriend wanted me to.
It had me wonder: religious rituals are exactly those of royal ceremonies. The "human" factor here is so obvious that everyone fails to see it.
