Here's the deal folks, this coverart business is a limitation of Winamp, not this skin.  Have you ever seen another winamp skin that would get covers from ID3 tags or anywhere else but your hard drive?  If you have, boy I'd sure like to know about it.  As for renaming 300+ files, you can do it in about 5 seconds using Magic File Renamer or another similiar file renaming program.

Isn't possible to integrate a plugin that works like toaster or similar into the skin or at least as a standalone plugin but using tha same stlye that you design for ClearOne?

I use ClearOne in this way:

immagine19rm.png

and I think that this cdart-thing would be definitely awesome...

Anyway, it's the best skin I've ever seen!

Weel, my solution for now... a Winamp CD Case skin inspired by CleaOne.

It's for personal use only because I'm not so good in this kind of graphic-shadowed-cool things... anyway, if you want to try it here it is:

case4ul.png

Just create a folder in "winamp cd case/skins" and named it as you like.

Copy there this png naming it "case.png" and this other one:

notifier9ye.png

(it's a totally transparent png...)

naming it "notifier.png". Then set the font dimension for the notifier to "0" (don't know if there's a better way to remove the notifier for Winamp CD Case...).

Then set the cover art size and position like this:

immagine23dm.png

I'm just a newbie, folks...

P.S.: is there any way to lock the position in the desktop for Winamp and Winamp Cd Case?

is there any way to lock the position in the desktop for Winamp and Winamp Cd Case?

An excellent idea squek. Do you think it would be enough just to be able to lock the main window (not the PL, ML, etc.)? I could possibly do all of them, but just the main window would be easier. I find myself moving the other windows around a lot too, but I'd like the main to stay fixed. Sorry, but I don't have any control over the CD Case. If there's not currently a way to lock it within its menus, you could always request that the author build it in.

No, I don't know any other skins that support covers at all...! Could you name a few?

----

As for that limitation: Code from 'cover.maki'

(...) Error    + cover.jpg;coverart.jpg;folder.jpg;front.jpg    //; (...)

isn't this the code where you get the cover file? Is it possible to work with '*'?

Maby something like *.jpg is an option?

(Or should I stop about this cover thing...?)

I think that the lock option could be set only for the main window, but if there's a way to lock main, PL, ML and Cover Art windows all together you'll prevent people from separating them accidentally...

The idea is that you can move winamp through the desktop by holding the main window or the playlist and it doesn't "disassemble".

Or you can decide a position and lock it there all the windows already locked each other.

Once again, my english is terrible... I hope you understand something...

Good eyes Barisko, but maki does not accept wildcard characters. Believe me, I've tried plenty of combinations trying to get it to work, but it's gotta be a straight-up filename.

I should have explained this better before, it's not really a limitation of Winamp, it's due to how html files and security settings are handled. Here's the thread at Winamp discussing possible workarounds to the problem. But as rpeterclark states:

Good job finding a workaround, but really I wish people would let this go. The reason is because all of these workarounds are an attempt to find a way to make Winamp run embedded HTML files under "local zone" security privlages. All of these attempts basically amount to security holes that should be patched.

If someone could find a way to do this that did not rely on local HTML files embedded within the .wal file, then that would be fine. But trying to make this work in a way that Winamp is trying to prevent you from doing is just not a reliable way to go.

So, I'm going to take this man's advice. He is the author of the Drone skin which many of you have probably used. I *borrowed* most of his scripts from that skin to get my coverart and notifiers to work. I guess what I'm saying is that if this guy hasn't come up with a reliable solution, then one simply doesn't exist.

andy, there should be no image degradation when Winamp resizes the coverart. If you look at a screenshot of original image (folder.jpg or whatever) resized in Photoshop, compare that to a screenshot of the coverart in the skin, there is absolutely no difference.

screenshot.bmp

I didn't know about the CTR-T function mike, but you are correct, for some reason it doesn't work. I'll see about fixing that.

squek, your english is good so I have no problem understanding you. I'll probably add a "Freeze" option for the main window and possibly for the others as well. That way, when you get the player where you want it, it'll stay there. As for being able to move the PL and all the other windows follow without disassembling, that might be harder. Currently, just the main window works this way.

hey axialix, still the best winamp skin out there, I would still use it if I wouldn't love iTunes so much at the moment :D

But wouldn't it be better if you open a new thread where you can post all you progress and even edit your first post when you update your skin? just a suggestion from me as I see this thread is getting very long now..

you did a very nice job with this skin! :)

Thanks Stylez. I see what you mean about posting my progress, but that's kind of what the changelog at my site is for. I really encourage everyone to read it when they're downloading a new version. I would like to keep using this board to notify people when there is an update available and also for new ideas and bug reports. I guess my thread over at winamp died out or something because this is the only place people are still talking about this skin. This thread is getting quite long so if that is problem for a lot of people then I will consider doing what you suggested and start another one.

iTunes?? Never heard of it. :D But seriously, I assume you know that there is a Winamp plugin available for you iPod users. It's ml_iPod by Will Fisher. There's a whole site devoted to it. Check it out here.

democles, when the original winamp skin displayed, you had minimized winamp and then restored it?  Or you had put the playlist in shademode and then returned to the normal layout?  I'm just confused because there is no way to "maximize" the player.

Tandy, senior is correct in that you must organize your music.  This skin looks for an image in the folder where your music is.  Create a folder for each album you have and in that folder place an image called cover.jpg or front.jpg.  This image is what this skin looks for on every track change.

586029418

yes i mean i restore it, after I minimize the winamp. the original skin just pops out on the background.

I just upgraded to latest version, and the same thing happens.

after I minimize the winamp. the original skin just pops out on the background.

That's really strange, I don't know what could be causing it. About the only thing I can suggest is to reinstall winamp. I'd like to know if that solves the problem. Does it do that on every minimize and restore or just once in a while?

I would like to do a little bug-report:

---[bug]---

When I do the following:

1. I play a song that has a cover.

2. I set the cover window to '2.5X <250px>'.

3. I play a song that does not have a cover.

note: the cover window will now display "this window will display these filenames: (...)"

(see above part of screenshot)

3. I play a song that does have a cover.

note: the cover window will display the cover but at a smaller size eventhow the settings are '2.5X <250px>'. I should resize to that setting.

(see below part of screenshot)

post-2001-1118353081_thumb.jpg

---[end]---

And I would like to do a suggestion:

Most of the full albums I have storred on my pc have a cover.jpg. Most of the singel songs don't have one.

When I play a album I would like the skin to show the cover. But when I play a singel song without a cover I don't like to see the message "this window will display these filenames: (...)".

So my suggestion is that the window that displays the covers has the option "hide when there is no cover file availble".

is this possible?

Barisko

Got that resizing bug fixed Barisko, thanks for finding it. But about the hiding of the window when no cover is found, that would mean people would never see the window "This window will display these filenames..". I would like to keep this as someone who has never used the skin would not know what images to put in their folders. See what I mean? Or can you think of another way of doing it?

Hey axialix, it used to work, but now, it just starts up, the player with the clearOne skin shows, and suddenly Windows pops up saying that Winamp has to close.

It says:

AppName: winamp.exe  AppVer: 5.0.0.9  ModName: msvcrt.dll

ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180  Offset: 00037c7e

I got your modified gen_ml.dll, although that doesn't have anything to do with it, I think. Once I delete the "skin=clearone.wal" in my Winamp.ini, the thing works again.

However, if I start Winamp with another skin, and change to clearOne, it works. What's going on?

EDIT: downloaded another copy from your site again, deleted some studio.xnf file, still no result.

That's really strange, I don't know what could be causing it.  About the only thing I can suggest is to reinstall winamp.  I'd like to know if that solves the problem.  Does it do that on every minimize and restore or just once in a while?

586038188

ah, maybe i'll just reinstall the damn thing aniway :D Thanks bro, u made a very good skin!

BTW, the song slider is on the low side of the player, not in front of title (like the old one), is it temporary? I dont kinda like it, its like not natural there...

Yes, I do think it is possible. You could create that "hide when no cover file is found" option in the skin's properties. That option is set to 'disabled' when the skin is first used. But when set to 'enable' by the user it will hide the cover window when no file could be found.

You could even build in an extra popup warning when that option is enabled by the user: "Remember that the cover window will ONLY display when a file with these filenames is found in the same folder as the music file is."

what do you think?

randomshinichi, it looks like I'll have to modify another gen_ml for Winamp 5.09 since the current one on my site doesn't seem to work anymore. The latest build of Winamp is dated 5-27, but clearly something has changed since then. For now, you can still use the old (5.08-) gen_ml at my site. It works fine with 5.09.

BTW, the song slider is on the low side of the player, not in front of title (like the old one), is it temporary?

democles, I haven't changed anything with the position seeker, so please give me a screenshot.

Barisko, that's a great idea. An option would work well here, so I'll try to get it added in soon.

why go through the trouble of coding the window to disappear and reappear when a cover isn't found. Make it so someone has a default image they can assign to it if there isn't a cover available. Or better yet...rip off WinampCDs code that auto gets the cover from amazon if the cover doesnt exist

OK, fixed the gen_ml for 5.09, it's now updated. Just wondering how many of you use it? Does it bother you that the default buttons are really large and the font doesn't match? Well, it bothers me, so I'll keep modifying them when new Winamp builds come out.

Well, what about it Barisko? Would this work as well? I kinda like this idea, although I foresee some size debates coming.
