Malaysia Airlines 'loses contact with plane' (and search effort updates)

Recommended Posts

I think it's just unbelievable that the Malaysian government took a week to disclose that there were signals from the aircraft for up to 5 or 6 hours after it disappeared off radar. You'd think that information would have been known within the first 24 hours?

Those pings were not visible to airline or anyone for that matter. Satellite company have to retrieve "ping data", analyze it, and send it to Malaysia. Those pings were part of airplane SATCOM ( Satellite Communications Channel) and they are send from/to airplane. Also those pings doesn't have any meaningful information at all. This all takes time unfortunately.

Lol if Iran wanted to attack Israel, they could just fire some of their short range missiles at them. There's no reason to go through an elaborate and risky plan to hijack a jet from another country. On top of that, I'm pretty sure Iran has passenger jets in their control also..

You completely missed the point, as Mods tend to do: ;)

Iran may think, they couldn't be blamed, because it is not 'their' jet.

However, it is just one theory, which I do not believe in.

Someone actually did: https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1204773-the-craziest-theories-about-what-happened-to-malaysia-flight-370/

What about the suitcase? Is it no longer important?

the problem with finding stuff like that in the ocean or bay's... is there is TONS of trash like that just floating around in the oceans... especially coming from around china sad to say...

Correct. In fact the Pacific region is home to quite a large trash flotilla. Then there's the Japanese tsunami that washed how much stuff into the oceans.

what about the raft that some fisherman said it was from the airplane? and the oilring report that some guy saw a burning airplane falling from the sky? so many questions, few answers...

Lack of wreckage doesn't mean lack of proper explanation: maybe the search crews are searching in the wrong area, after all.

Yes -- they are searching in the wrong area.

How do you know this?

The guy has a real Hotmail address -- ask him yourself.

Vietnam's air traffic management earlier said it had received an email from a New Zealander working in one of the oil rigs off Vung Tau.

"He said he spotted a burning [object] at that location, some 300 km (200 miles) southeast of Vung Tau," deputy general director Doan Huu Gia said.

You made the claim it was true.  The burden of proof is on you, not him.

and did anyone check it out?

I need not prove anything, since each person must decide for themselves what is true.

The oil rig man said he saw a burning plane go down at the time.

I dare to believe him.

The mystery is over for me.

And condolences to all the flight 370 families ...

To be fair, whether it went down or not I think condolences have been out for the families for a while. I would be extremely surprised if any one of them is still here, whatever the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.

I thought what he said was he saw an explosion in the sky, and the timing was similar to the time the plane disappeared?

As for the passengers, the fact the plane rose to 45,000 feet and flew at that altitude for a short while before dropping to 20,000+ tells me the passengers are dead. Whoever was flying the plane knew exactly what they were doing.

Why does two changes of altitude tell you the passengers are dead?  All that tells you is that the plane changed altitude twice, which isn't unheard of during normal flights thanks to air pockets and the like.

I thought what he said was he saw an explosion in the sky, and the timing was similar to the time the plane disappeared?

Is this real, though? I mean, is someone actually going to put their name, email address and passport number on the internet? It wouldn't be difficult to fabricate this letter.

    • Dbrand thought they could get away with this Steam Machine case, Valve disagreed by David Uzondu Image via Dbrand Dbrand has cancelled its highly anticipated Companion Cube enclosure for the Valve Steam Machine, which it teased back in November of last year with a concept render and sign-up page, because it did not ask Valve for permission first before manufacturing the case. According to Dbrand, it took the "backwards approach" of building the product first before asking for permission from the copyright holder. Seven months of work went into the project, requiring over a thousand engineering hours from the design team. Workers developed forty-four sets of injection molding tools, making a unique mold for each sub-component of the crate. When the Companion Cube went live on Monday last week, it, according to Dbrand, quickly became the second-fastest-selling product in the company's fifteen-year history, racking up orders for hundreds of thousands of units. Customers eagerly bought the $129.95 deluxe edition or the bare-bones $99.95 version, which the manufacturer cheekily branded as the "Poverty Cube". It was around this time that the legal eagles at Valve descended on the accessory maker with a formal demand. The developer pointed out that the iconic block design remains protected intellectual property from the game Portal, so unlicensed sales had to stop. Dbrand said that all its pleas to salvage the project with the Valve team, including proposals to run a properly licensed release under official terms "with their blessing", fell on deaf ears, so it had no choice but to obey and remove every trace of the product from the internet. If you bought the enclosure, the company said that banks will process your refund by the end of this week, but if it still hasn't arrived in your account by then, you should not hesitate to contact support. The Steam Machine itself is a high-performance console that Valve designed directly to bring PC gaming into the living room. It was announced on 12th November 2025 (the same day Dbrand announced the Cube) and runs on the Linux-based SteamOS, the same OS that powers the Steam Deck. As for the price, due to the shortage of memory and storage chips, the hardware cost landed much higher than people were expecting, starting at $1,049 for the 512 model (without a controller) or $1,128 with the new gamepad. The premium 2 TB model pushes those prices even higher, selling at $1,349 for the standalone console and hitting $1,428 if you want the bundle.
    • It's listed #399.99 on Amazon, per your link. It's not $299.99.
    • Wonder how much of this it related to them using something like Mythos. It seems everybody is releasing large numbers of updates in the last few weeks.
