I'd be surprised if it wasn't about the rumored $200-220 but depends on how much demand there is off the bat I suppose.

If you compare it to current ones in the same performance range you'd probably be close.  But then maybe by going with Seagate only to start is allowing them to get a even better price.  Guess we'll see.  I'm personally OK with uninstalling a game after i'm done with it, mostly because I don't often replay many games.   That's just me though, always on to something new.

I didn't pre-order, but I expect to get an SX or SS sometime in 2021. I'm buying mine with all Microsoft Rewards points. I have enough for an SS now, but deciding if I want the SX. Either way, I should have enough points by end of this year.

I'll probably keep my current external SSDs on so I don't even know how much space I'll need.  It'll be interesting not having this damn near useless 1TB of space anymore hah.

Since you can move games from external to the internet when you want to play I can see many doing that with a cheaper and bigger HDD for example.  Don't know how long it'll take to move games to the internal drive but should be faster than downloading them over for sure.

Still no idea of how much the expansion SSDs are gonna cost.  Dunno why they haven't given us that price yet either.

One UK retailer had it priced at £159 the other day before quickly removing it.

Engadget saying the external cards are $220, but that's off of a best buy pre-order listing which might not be up anymroe, I haven't checked.

Anyways, internal Gen4, and even Gen3, NVMe 1TB cards you can buy now aren't that cheap.

Looks like it's official, $220.  Yikes.  Well, I'll just get a bigger USB4 HDD and use that as storage, transfer any games I want to play to the internal etc.

Bugger me! That puts an Xbox Series S and expandable at $520 roflbbq 😂

Yep if someone who bought the S also wanted expandable 1TB storage then they should just buy the Xbox Series S instead! lol

I should say the best thing to do cost wise is get a external SSD, and move games around.  These custom NVMe SSDs are going to be pricy for both Xbox and PlayStation.

It definitely will be for S owners for sure.

Unless they don't much care to keep so many games installed.  Re-downloading is a pain for sure but if you're not going to play the game again, say you do it via game pass for example, then it might not be such a issue for them.

I assume people are talking about the Call of Duty crowd who might indeed have issues, but you can always use external drives you probably already have for non Series enhanced games.

I'm going to hold fire for now. I'll see what the transfer speeds are like between my external HDD and the internal drive. Those combined will give me close to 3TB of storage space which is nuts in itself.

I feel like the way that I play games, 1TB should suffice.

Are you also like me who uninstalls a game once they're done with it and hardly, if ever plays it again?   I don't keep too many games installed after I'm done.

I should've held on a bit.  I have the money, but it's been a while.

After everything else though, eh, why not?  It'll be an awesome end to a crappy year.

And I can move my external SSDs to other systems (my laptop can use one, and I can stop using the SSHD on my desktop.)

Alright well that didn't last I cancelled the storage card order.  It can wait til after launch.

I'm in no rush either, I think that 1TB will last a good bit for me since I'm pretty picky on the games I play now that my time is more limited.   The only question I have at this point is if I play Cyberpunk 2077 on Series X or get it flat out through GoG so CDPR gets all the money?

I'm leaning towards buying it through GoG to show more support and I do have all the witcher games through there already.

That price is only harder to swallow after the previous rumour of it being £160, the £220 is kinda what I was expecting.

I'll run with 1TB for a while and see how it goes but like dipsy, I think I'll see how transfer speeds are and maybe rotate games between an external HDD and the internal.

Pretty much, I have a few games (Warzone, No Man's Sky, Assassin's Creed) that I dip into every now and then and won't uninstall, but yeah most others, I have a play through and then uninstall.

It's unlike the console where I doubt that it'll be hard to get a hold of. You can see have you get on with the console and buy the external storage after if needed.

I also expect the storage cards will drop in price relatively faster than the consoles will.  Maybe in 6 months it'll be in the $150 range.

Not only the price dropping but hopefully we'll see third party ones too.

We will, no doubt.  I just don't know how long the deal with Seagate is going to last.  Might be a year for example.  Either way, once it's open to others I also expect to see a suggested adaptor card that lets you use the longer 2280 types.  Sure it'll stick out way more on the back but oh well.

    • AMD is supported out of the box in linux because of their open source driver. Nvidia does not. All my systems are amd and all of them work nicely on linux arch without doing anything.
    • Never had a problem with TPM and started using that many years ago in Win10. Through several motherboards and OS versions, it just does what it does without complaint. My games library doesn't even know it's there. Secure boot does a lot more than support anti-cheat, as it came along long before anti-cheat software. I've used it religiously since before I started using TPM, and I always liked it for being able to nullify virus contagions that try their best to come in underneath the firmware during boot, so that the OS doesn't see them, etc. That is its purpose, imo. I'll never understand why people who elect to use another OS feel compelled to run down Windows... I guess they need to do that to feel secure about their choices? I run Windows because it supports all the software (including games) natively that I want to buy, and I've never had to run down another OS to make me feel better about it. (Although it's certainly possible to do that, of course...) Win10 is on a ventilator atm, and Win11 is very close to being free, and I finally got to stop running StartAllBack as I moved to the Experimental/Dev channel and my 26300.8553 build supports the moveable taskbar and it's running fine at the top of the screen! Finally, my last major dislike of Win11 is being rectified! So, I'm not at all surprised to see Win11's share of the Steam survey hitting 70%.
    • I can answer about the Linux bit. I only used AMD GPUs. I currently have a 9060XT (8GB) that fits my needs, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need that much GDDR. But lately, NVIDIA has grown a lot in the recent years. Oh, the horrors of NVIDIA drivers not working. But they have been getting better. I know a lot of members onm here that are running cachyOS and other distros, and are fine with a 4090/5090 variants. Really, though, I would stick with AMD variants.
    • Everything they say you can already do yourself on the registry by changing some things.
    • Artist's renderings are so much nicer to view than the real thing, don't you think?
