Kodi 19 “Matrix” Alpha 2 launches with new fixes

A matrix style graphic for Kodi

Last month, Kodi announced the availability of Kodi 19 “Matrix” Alpha 1. The new update came with a long list of changes including the ability to decode AV1, new music visualisations, subtitle enhancements, and more. Today, Kodi 19 “Matrix” Alpha 2 has been released with a raft of fixes to improve stability.

In a jocular fashion, the Kodi team wrote:

“The usual drill applies: this is an alpha, some things will be broken, your home is at risk if something goes wrong, it might run off with your partner, don't blame us if it eats your kittens. Otherwise, though, all should be fine.

Again, though, please - and adopting a more serious note - expect some breakage, and don't use this as your daily installation unless you know how to get things working again. If you do make the move and install it, however, please do share your experiences back with us so we can really get going on those bugs.”

Most of the changes in this update are fixes for existing features, perhaps the most interesting change listed in the blog post is that the SeekBar has now be re-designed so that it will auto-hide when video playback is paused. You should also notice better out-of-the-box behaviour with regards to music and video library artwork.

If you’ve not been keeping up with developments, the Kodi team announced back in March that Kodi 19 will be able to run on jailbroken tvOS devices but support for 32-bit iOS devices would be coming to an end; this means that the new Kodi will not be available on the iPhone 5s, iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, nor the iPod Touch 6th gen.

If you want to try out the second Alpha release of Kodi 19 “Matrix” just head over to the Kodi snapshots page and navigate to the appropriate download for your device.
