Perplexity, a popular AI startup, today announced a new capability called Perplexity Labs for its Pro subscribers. Perplexity's core search feature allows users to get instant answers, while the Deep Search feature allows users to create detailed reports on topics in a few minutes.
The new Perplexity Labs feature enables users to create detailed research reports, spreadsheets, dashboards, and simple web apps after research and analysis. To avoid confusion among its users, Perplexity is renaming its existing “Deep Research” feature to “Research,” since its capability falls between the new Labs and core Search capabilities.
Perplexity claims that Labs can perform 10 minutes or more of self-supervised work that involves web Browse, code execution, and chart and image creation to convert simple text prompts into dashboards, simple web apps, and more.
Here's how the Perplexity Labs feature works:
Code Generation: Labs writes and executes code to handle tasks like structuring data, applying formulas, and creating charts, text documents, or spreadsheets.
Assets Tab: All files created during your workflow — from generated charts and images, to CSV and code files — are organized in the “Assets” tab. From there, you can easily view and download everything you need.
Mini Apps: Labs can develop and deploy simple interactive web apps directly within an “App” tab in your project. This enables the creation of basic dashboards, slideshows, and websites without external development tools.
Perplexity Pro subscribers can start using this new Labs feature via the mode selector in the prompt input bar on Web, iOS, and Android. This feature is also coming to the official Perplexity Mac and Windows apps. You can check out some examples of Perplexity Labs in action here.
