Last August, Microsoft announced Cache, a digital clipboard tool that would allow you to "bookmark the stuff important to you." This "stuff" would sync across various devices, serving as a universal clipboard.
It would seem that the Microsoft Garage project wasn't meant to be, as the company is now retiring the service, less than five months after its launch. Microsoft says that it "won’t develop Cache as a stand-alone product anymore", and the service itself will shut down at the end of February.
As Thurrott notes, the above statement does hint at possible future plans. It might not be a standalone product anymore, but it could end up being a built-in feature of Windows, or possibly Cortana on other mobile platforms.
The statement provided doesn't give any reason for the discontinuation of the service, other than, "All Garage projects are experiments by definition, and thanks to vocal, passionate users like you, this experiment leaves us better equipped to tackle our original mission to help people easily organize their stuff."
As with the above excerpt, this also implies that Microsoft isn't done with its attempts to help us organize our stuff.
