Turing Robotics Industries (TRI) has made some pretty spectacular claims. The image you see above is of the Turing Phone Cadenza, a device that was promised to have two Snapdragon 830 chipsets (this was before the Snapdragon 835 was announced, and everyone thought it would be the 830), a 60-megapixel camera, 12GB RAM, 512GB of storage, and more.
Naturally, the Cadenza never made it to market, but that didn't stop TRI from announcing the Turing Monolith Chaconne.
What's cooler than two flagship chipsets? That's right, three of them. The Cadenza hadn't shipped and the Snapdragon 835 hadn't been formally announced, but TRI was promising three of them in one device, along with a 6.4-inch 4K display, 18GB RAM, 768GB onboard storage, 60MP quad rear camera, 20MP dual front camera, 3600mAh Graphene Supercapacitor Battery + 1600mAh Li-Ion + Hydrogen Fuelcell, and quad-SIM support.
TRI has filed for bankruptcy.
In a post on its Facebook page, the company said that it has suspended manufacturing of the products that it actually has brought to market, and that it will be posting updates regarding the future of the company soon. It was the first time since August that TRI posted about any of its own products, when it linked to its Appassionato phone, which people still can't purchase.
The Turing Phone was another device that was promised in 2016, and after months of delays, was finally delivered to consumers. Originally promised as an Android phone, it eventually pivoted to Sailfish OS. Later products that TRI promised were to run Swordfish OS, a spin-off of Sailfish.
Turing Robotics does seem to envision some really beautiful products, but apparently it just set its goals too high. It will be interesting to see what details the company provides over the coming weeks.
