OneDrive will soon support music storage, stream stored music using Xbox app

Microsoft announced today that the company selling its MixRadio music service to LINE but the company is about to make some serious improvements to its Xbox Music service and it comes with help from OneDrive.

We have been hearing (and seeing evidence) that OneDrive was going to soon support music storage and Neowin has been tipped by a reliable source about the plans for the service. An upcoming update to both OneDrive and Xbox Music will make it possible to store your music in OneDrive and access it anywhere using the Xbox Music app.

We are also hearing that there will be an option to import playlists from other services, such as iTunes.

This update for Xbox Music and OneDrive will make it easier to access your content on nearly any device and shows Microsoft's commitment to the music streaming service. Seeing that OneDrive has quite a bit of free storage - and for Office 365 subscribers, it is unlimited - this means that those with large audio libraries will be able to listen to all of theie music, anywhere, without any additional fees.

This is actually a big play for Microsoft as Apple currently charges $24.99 for a similar service and while our source did not explicitly say, we believe the music storage feature will be free with a paid music subscription. Also, we don't know if you will be able to stream all of your content from OneDrive without a subscription but we are still digging on this front and will let you know if we hear anything.

We were not told when the update would roll out but we believe it should be soon based on other signals we have received. Keep an eye out for this update and let us know if this feature will be enough to get you to jump from another service to Xbox Music.
