Symantec updates Norton products

Norton AntiVirus ($39.99) and Norton Internet Security ($69.99) have hit the 2007 version. Upgrade versions will be available. Both products detect entire families of threats, without the need of signatures. NAV2007 can now detect rootkits and NIS2007 now includes a phishing shield. Norton 360, Symantec's answer to Microsoft's OneCare is expected by the end of March 2007.

Symantec is touting better protection and system performance – something that is unusual from Norton. According to the security giant, the new versions use less memory, have a faster boot time, a faster scan speed, a faster UI launch speed and a faster download speed for updates. The product line is typically under much criticism at its ability to majorly slow down a computer and for how hard it can be to remove from a Windows system.
