This week's highlights in new game releases: August 29-September 4

We are definitely back in the busy period of new game releases with a number of notable new titles for various platforms due out in the next seven days. One of them is Tropico 4. The Kalypso Media-published game for the PC lets players once again become an island dictator and rule the country with an iron fist or a velvet glove. Also due out this week is The Baconing, the third game in the humor-filled action-RPG series from developer Hothead Games, for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms.

Bodycount, Codemasters' latest first person shooter for the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles, is also out this week, which basically tries to live up to its title. Electronic Arts also comes out with Madden NFL 12 this week for nearly all consoles. EA Sports' pro football title is usually one of the best selling games of the year in the US. Xbox 360 owners will be able to download and purchase Rock of Ages, an unusual take on the tower defense genre with some wild art styles from developer ACE Studios.

There's some cool retro gaming due out this week for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 with the release via download of Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, which has the first three games in the classic fighting game series with added online multiplayer. PC players will also be able to download and play the final version of Archon, a sci-fi RTS game with some time travel twists to its gameplay.
