Sony closed the PlayStation Experience event today by revealing a trailer for the highly-anticipated The Last of Us Part II. The announcement came shortly after Naughty Dog premiered Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Before the trailer aired, there was no mention as to which upcoming title the trailer belonged to, however, you can assume attendees may have anticipated something exciting. The video opens with a jaw-dropping shot of a sun pierced forest and the sound of a low humming twang. Each camera shot quickly changes to a different angle with each sudden thump, until the militia Fireflies logo is revealed, posted over a stop sign. During the keynote, a loud roar of excitement and cheering broke out amongst the crowd. A proven indication that this was indeed a trailer for The Last of Us Part II.
Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios, Shawn Layden, took to the stage and announced the upcoming title is utilizing developer Naughty Dog's updated engine, and it truly shines through. Each blade of grass, the moss covering the bark of trees, and the individual hairs on Ellie's brows have been meticulously crafted.
The second chapter in the franchise takes place a few years after the events of the original game. Ellie, one of the main characters, is now 19 years old and fueled by vengeance and hate, with the trailer foreshadowing her grim future.
While Layden stated the game is still very much in its earliest stage of development, Creative Director at Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann, promised more details about the game in the coming months.
