Microsoft has already released two public beta versions of its User Experience Virtualization, the company's new desktop virtualization program; the second beta was released back in April. Now the company has offered up a release candidate build of UE-V to download.
In a post on the Microsoft Springboard Series blog, Microsoft states the RC build now supports the RTM version of Windows 8, along with Windows Server 2012. There are also a number of performance improvements in the new RC build, along with changes that have been put into place for some of the settings location templates for Office 2010.
Microsoft has also added in a new way for UE-V users to have more control over roaming settings. The blog states, "For example, let’s say you have a set of users who use mandatory profiles but occasionally there are other users who use the same machines that need to have their experience roam with UE-V."
While this was possible with earlier beta builds, Microsoft admits that it was difficult to set up UE-V for these kinds of scenarios. With the RC build, this has changed. Microsoft said, "Therefore, we created a new group policy to enable or disable UE-V. This policy allows you to use security groups to control who it applies to, ultimately giving you control over which users have the ability to roam their experience."
The final version of UE-V will be released in the fourth quarter of 2012 as part of the Microsoft Desktop Virtualization Pack (MDOP) 2012 product. Microsoft has some more information on UE-V which you can find on Microsoft's Windows Business blog.
