Porn site Brazzers has been banned in Russia for 'damaging the human psyche'

To the dismay of many people, adult video website Brazzers has recently been blocked in Russia by government media watchdog Roskomnadzor.

According to a report by The Moscow Times, the ban, which was imposed last Tuesday, was due to the adult company having a "deeply negative influence on the human psyche". It follows the decision by the Bolsheglushitsky District Court in the country's Samara region back in October of 2016.

Aside from this, the decision found that the content found on Brazzers "violated citizens' rights", as stated in a TJ Journal report.

Although Russia only accounts for a very small percentage of Brazzers' visitors, coming in at less than four percent, The Moscow Times reports that the number of Russian language search terms bringing visitors to the adult website has more than doubled in the past 12 months.

Apparently, blocking porn sites is nothing new to Russia. Back in September 2016, the same government media watchdog ordered a ban on Pornhub. It was blocked after a court in the country ruled out that the website violated child protection laws.

Pornhub, at the time, responded by offering Russians 14 days of premium access to their content. Furthermore, in what seems to be a move to further insult Roskomnadzor officials, it offered an upgraded membership if they will lift the ban. However, this deal did not go through.

Just over a month ago, the Philippines also disallowed access to a number of porn websites like Pornhub and xvideos, arguing for the ban as a move towards curbing child pornography.
