As businesses continue to navigate working arrangements for employee’s professional communication tools such as Slack and Microsoft Teams continue to come up with innovative ways for teams to communicate. Slack is launching its new clips feature today allowing co-workers to take communications beyond just text.
Clips add the ability to record audio and video and screen recordings and place them as searchable content inside the Slack channels or DMs. Users can even add captions and transcripts that are searchable. Your co-workers can also reply with audio, video, or an emoji. Slack hopes that this will help companies communicate more efficiently across time zones.
Slack has been working on clips for over a year. The first thought was it might be something like Instagram stories that disappear after a day rather than video or voicemails, instead opting for something that adapts to the Slack userbase.
Slack didn’t stop with just clips; they’ve also improved Slack Connect now allowing organizations using the free version of the product to connect with those using paid versions. Starting this fall Slack Enterprise Grid customers will be able to invite anyone to Slack.
For those in government channels, GovSlack will be launching in 2022. GovSlack is designed to run on government-certified cloud environments. The new version meets government requirements like FedRAMP High and DoDIL4 certifications.
Slack and Microsoft Teams have been in stiff competition to be the hub of work environments. Microsoft continues to push Office integration with its product, while Slack will respond by keeping its APIs open to encourage integration with other apps and services
