Today's Sea of Thieves update delayed, The Hungering Deep trailer to land next week

Sea of Thieves' weekly update streak has come to an end, as Rare announced that the update that was supposed to go live today has been delayed to next week. As explained in the developer update video above, a new issue that popped up on the PC version is to blame for the setback, with the studio deciding to hold back the update rather than push it with the offending problem.

Beyond that, the developer revealed some changes that are set to arrive with the delayed update next week. Private parties is one of these additions, where players will be able to start a play session that is closed off to random matchmaking where they can only expand their crew via invites.

Meanwhile, higher level pirates will see the number of Castaway chests they unearth lowered, and all players' nametags will disappear when swimming underwater, giving more opportunities to be sneaky.

Players will be able to share gatherable items like cannonballs and bananas with others following the update as well, accomplished simply by holding them out for someone to grab.

A missing set of items from last week's cosmetics focused 1.0.6 update will be included in the upcoming one, while eight items that were deemed too similar to each other by the community will be removed from all stores. Some incorrectly overpriced priced items will be fixed as well, with Gold refunds going to those who have already purchased the said items.

The developer added that there are currently three teams working on upcoming content updates, and The Hungering Deep update will finally get its release date revealed next week, which will arrive alongside a brand new trailer.
