Vivaldi has announced that Startpage, a European search engine focused on privacy, is now a search engine option in its browser. The new agreement between the two, will allow privacy-aware Vivaldi users to easily switch to Startpage and get “best-in-class search results and unrivaled privacy protection.”

To use Startpage in Vivaldi, just head to the search field at the top right-hand side of the browser. Pressing the magnifying glass icon will show a list of search engine options including Startpage. It’s also possible to change the search engine to Startpage by heading to the browser settings and adjusting the search engine there.

Commenting on the partnership, Jon von Tetzchner, CEO and co-founder of Vivaldi, said:

“Search is at the core of the online experience for our users. We’re partnering with Startpage to make it easy for users to protect their privacy. They can search the Web freely and without any intrusions to their privacy.”

Startpage CEO and co-founder, Robert E.G. Beens, said the following:

“Vivaldi browser’s speed, ad blockers and tracking protection make it a highly customizable alternative to Chrome and Firefox and an ideal partner for us. Partnering with Vivaldi offers our users the combination of two great European products and gives them full privacy without sacrificing search results.”

According to research carried out by Vivaldi earlier this year, it found that most of its users prefer search engines that promote privacy. From the 7,000 surveyed Vivaldi users, 84% said that they look for a search engine with a reputation of privacy. By adding Startpage to the search roster, Vivaldi may be able to better retain its current user base and even expand it.
