Google Fit website to close on March 19, shifting focus to mobile and smartwatch

Google introduced a major change to its health-tracking platform in August of last year in collaboration with the American Heart Association and the World Health Organization. That update included the addition of the "Move Minutes" metrics for keeping track of your movements throughout the day and "Heart Points" for giving credits to your fitness efforts.

However, those changes have since been rolled out only to Google Fit on Android and Wear OS, leaving the desktop version out in the cold. Now, a notice on Google Fit's website announces that it will be shutting down on March 19.

Google says the move is part of its effort to put more focus on the mobile and smartwatch platforms where Fit is concerned. The company adds that it plans to develop new capabilities meant to improve those experiences.

Those planned features will complement previous enhancements that were added to Fit. In December 2018, the Mountain View-based giant launched new capabilities for Google Fit including new widgets for checking your daily stats and a guided breathing routine. Then a New Year 30-day challenge kicked off later that month to get people to do more exercises.
