D.S. and Razowing, that was extremely well played ... Bravo ...

Ender's game

I would say this is a disappointment. Visual FX and space battle are very good but I could not connect with the characters. The story has too many loose ends and some part do not make sense, especially the ending after the entire movie build up.

May be it is a problem of adaptation from the book to the movie but I feel that there is something missing from that movie and it left me emotionally void.

3.5/10 ( +0.5 because the soundtrack is made by Steve Jablonsky and I love his work)

Enemy - 2.5/10 - I admired what it's trying to do which I believe affords it some points but the execution was terrible and the movie is as boring as can be. I didn't get it at first and only until I read other peoples interpretations did I even truly know what it was all about; which was, in my opinion, silly.

Veronica Mars - 5.5/10 - It's pretty decent and the characters are believable enough. Sadly, I just found it didn't hold my interest. It felt like just watching a TV show in the background that you've seen a hundred times before.

I take it that you never watched the show?

Good super-hero movie but I somehow got the feeling that it tried to cram way too much in. This is a case where doing it in 2 parts (read: a 3rd movie) would've been better in order to properly explore the its central theme. Kudos for the director for not shying away from the comics, despite mixing and matching continuities to his liking. Still think Nathan Jones in a suit would've made a better Rhino

(despite him being pretty much a throw away character in the movie)

. If you like the first one, you'll like this one as well.

Gone Baby Gone [2007]

I have a lot of regrets regarding that movie: I bought it a long time on the recommendation of a member who is not there anymore and now I cannot thank him.

Two young and inexperienced private detectives are called to help solve the case of the disappearance of a 4 year old girl in a rough Boston suburb.

This is a psychological drama with a complex story, deep characters that gives an aura of authenticity that reinforces the movie.

During the movie,  the investigation to find the child becomes not only a quest into a web of lies and deceptions for the truth but also a test of one's own morality, of finding the answer of 'what is the right thing to do?' faced with the ugliness in the world.

And this is what makes that movie great. In fact, it does not end with the credits: it will make you think about the grey areas of life, about the choices you would have made in the same situations

9.75/10

No, would that change anything?

It would change a lot. You would know the main characters, their stories, some details from the show. The standard would be something like Serenity that can stand on its own for people that didn't watch Firefly.

If the movie is playing off of someones interest in the show without developing any interest solely on its own I could argue that it's still an average movie that is deserving of my 'score'. Besides, if the movie is anything to go off of, I wouldn't enjoy the TV series.

Although having said that, I can nearly guarantee that I'm a hypocrite and I've given movies better reviews because I enjoy the series. I can't think of any examples but I'd be a fool to assume there isn't any. Luckily in this case I've removed such bias.

10/10. Magnificent, fascinating, beautiful, funny, entertaining movie. Incredible story, editing, score, acting (Tilda Swinton is unbelievable), directing, sets, illumination... It's perfect IMHO.

Please, go and enjoy it.

Last night: Pacific Rim

Would give it a 9/10 because it was actually quite original (despite pretty much using every avenue of Japanese Sci-Fi as a basis - not that that's a bad thing either).

It could've been played as a sci-fi thriller like Sunshine. It could have been played as a deep introspection into what means to be self-aware. What we get is "The Turist" meets "Terminator Salvation". The action is bad, the dialog is worse. The cast is good but they go nowhere. The movie starts with a massive shot in the foot and ends with a plot-hole opener the size of a football stadium. This is what happens when you give 100 million dollars to a director of photography that picks a first time screenwriter for his first venture into feature film making. Not even Nolan as a producer could salvage this mess. Give it a miss.

Street Kings - 7.5/10 - Pretty damn good. I expected much less. The cliches were in overdrive though as was predictability. Keanu Reeves was good.

Robocop - 6/10 - Feels like opportunity wasted. Not bad. Too much lovey dovey not enough punchy smacky. I think they cast Robocop wrong as well and the black suit was terrible.

    • Microsoft announces the return of Xbox exclusives with Gears of War and Clockwork Revolution by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft had plenty of announcements to make today at the Xbox Games Showcase celebrating 25 years of the gaming brand. Now, under the leadership of the new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, Xbox games are going back to their original release methods. She appeared in the livestream itself to announce the return of Xbox console exclusives. This means two major upcoming games from first-party studios won't be coming to PlayStation or Nintendo consoles: Gears of War: E-Day from The Coalition and Clockwork Revolution from InExile. Both titles will only be coming out on Xbox Series X|S consoles and Windows PCs, ditching any plans they had for PlayStation. "These are not timed exclusives," confirmed Microsoft. "We’re committed to investing in and growing XBOX both on console and beyond." The company confirmed that any already announced Xbox titles for PlayStation, under previous leadership, will continue to arrive for the rival platform. This means games like the new Halo remake, Forza Horizon 6, Fable, and State of Decay 3 will still be available on PlayStation, either at launch or later. It sounds like any new projects announced by the company will avoid other consoles in the same way. Microsoft first opened the floodgates by bringing titles like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles back in 2024. Since then, almost every new game release from Xbox Game Studios has arrived for rival consoles alongside Xbox and PC. This decision follows Sony's plans to ditch its own multiplatform releases too. Outside of multiplatform live service titles, the PlayStation maker is even abandoning its PC porting endeavors that started years ago.
    • I'm missing the beginning part of this equation... but for the sake of the convo, you don't get to take a $250(?) set of normally priced RAM, jack it up to over $500/600/800 just because of a market shift, then lower it back down to more than what it was originally and call that a "sale". Not the author of this post... the manufacturer/seller.
