Xbox 360 games cannot be purchased from an Xbox One.. yet

Microsoft has been relentless when it comes to pushing the capabilities of the Xbox One console lately. In November, the Xbox team rolled out the first major software revision for the Xbox One, replacing the old hybrid operating system with Microsoft's Windows 10 OS. Along with the new systemcame the ability to port old Xbox 360 games to the Xbox One, a feature which currently has a few caveats.

As of this moment, you cannot purchase compatible Xbox 360 games directly from your Xbox One. Instead, you must have already owned the game digitally, have the physical disk handy or be willing to hit up Xbox.com to purchase the game and wait for it to eventually show up in your Xbox One games catalog. Even compatible 360 titles made available for free via the Games with Gold program require a visit to the Xbox website in order to acquire them. Fortunately, head of Xbox Phil Spencer knows where the Xbox team has dropped the ball on this process and has responded to it.

The Xbox team don't intend to bring any new updates to the Xbox One software during the holidays, but Spencer has said that those monthly updates will resume early in the new year. For those gamers that rely on credit/debit cards and gift cards to make their game purchases, the inconvenience is unfortunate but should be solved in time.
