Android 11 update for all OnePlus 7 series phones confirmed to be out this year

OnePlus today officially took the wraps off its latest flagship, the OnePlus 8T, bringing a 120Hz display and 65W Warp Charge to the device. The firm also announced that the device will ship with Android 11-based OxygenOS 11, joining the other OnePlus 8 series phones that recently began receiving the update.

However, in a statement to Android Authority, the company also confirmed that the update will make it to all the 7 series flagships from 2019 by the end of this year. The firm did not provide a specific date or timeframe, but considering that the company is yet to roll out the Open Beta for those devices, it will be safe to assume that the release might not begin before December and that it will be a staggered rollout, going well into 2021.

OxygenOS 11 brings not just the features from Android 11, but also a new skin that aims to make single-handed use easier. The update also includes a bunch of new features such as the new always-on display capabilities that the firm calls Ambient Display, improvements to inbox apps, dark mode enhancements, and much more. It will be interesting to see what features make it to the 7 series phones.

It is also not clear which of the devices is expected to receive the update first. Unlike the OnePlus 8 and 8T models, the 7 and 7T series devices sport slightly different chipsets and internals. Regardless, with the update promised to be rolled out in less than three months, the beta builds might be right around the corner, so the wait should not be too long.
