Even as Apple starts selling its iPhone 4S smartphone today, the company is still dealing with the recent loss of its founder and former CEO Steve Jobs. Today The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple has invited a number of people to attend a private memorial service for Jobs on Sunday, October 16. The event will be held at Stanford University.
In addition to people that were close to Jobs, invites to the memorial service have been extended to a number of unnamed but well known residents of the Silicon Valley area of California. People who received the invites were asked to respond to Emerson Collective, a charity organization that was established by Job's wife Laurene Powell Jobs.
This memorial service is different than the one that Apple plans to hold in memory of Jobs on Wednesday, October 19. That event is being held just for Apple employees and will be located at the company's main offices in Cupertino, California. Apple has said that it has no plans to hold any public memorial for Jobs, who died on October 5 at the age of 56 after battling pancreatic cancer for years.
The actual funeral for Jobs was a private affair and was held on October 7 in an unnamed location. Apple fans around the world have created their own homemade tributes to Jobs' life and placed them at Apple stores, at its corporate headquarters and at Jobs' residence.
