The Surface 2 tablet, running on Windows RT, just scored a major order from a Canadian business, health care and technology school. Microsoft announced today that CDI College, which has a number of locations in the Great White North, has bought over 5,800 Surface 2 tablets that will be given to students this summer.
Microsoft's press release says that CDI College decided to go all in with the Surface 2 after holding a pilot program with the tablet at its Ajax, Ontario campus. Another pilot program with the Surface 2 is currently underway at the school's Surrey, British Columbia location. Students were able to access course assignments online with the tablet, and teachers were able to conduct real time peer reviews of their students.
The press release quotes one of CDI College's students, Marlene Bromley, as saying:
The Surface 2 makes it a lot easier for us to learn. You can make more detailed notes, using pictures and highlighting things, With the Surface 2, I like the splitting of the screens so I can read my PowerPoint presentations and create flash cards as I go, instead of switching back and forth because it was really time-consuming.
Microsoft recently announced that for the first quarter of 2014, it generated $494 million in revenue from Surface products, but the division still lost $45 million in the same time period.
