Huawei sends out invites for London media event on April 6, P9 flagship launch expected

Huawei's new Android flagships didn't make an appearance at Mobile World Congress last month, but it looks like the company will unveil its latest range toppers in just a few weeks' time.

Huawei has sent out invites to a media event in London on April 6, and while it doesn't explicitly state that it will unveil its new high-end handsets there, that seems to be a pretty safe bet.

The tagline on the invite states "change the way you see the world", along with a rather unusual #OO hashtag. It doesn't take a great leap of imagination to see this as a thinly veiled reference to the dual 12-megapixel cameras - co-developed with German imagine specialists Leica - which will sit on the back of the P9, as revealed in recent leaks.

It's believed that there will actually be four handsets in the P9 family, including a more affordable 'compact' edition, a 'standard' model, a better-equipped 'plus' version, and a high-end phablet with a large display.

The top versions are expected to feature the latest octa-core Kirin 955 SoC, along with 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage, as well as a USB Type-C port and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Of course, everything is speculative until it's officially announced - but Neowin will be there at the London launch event to bring you all the details of the new devices, so stay tuned.
