    Hello, I have decided to buy myself a Nikon D3100 SLR for recording some video but i have noticed that the audio that is captured when recording people using the built in microphone isn't all that great. I have seen a few recommendations around ranging from the Nikon ME-1 Hotshoe Microphone to fully fledged clip on microphones like the Sony UWP both of them seem to have their good points and their bad points but the Sony is considerably more expensive. Does anyone here have any recommendations for a Hotshoe microphone system that would be good for recording one person from around 5 feet away capturing a good level of audio? Rich

  5. playback issues on TV after handbrake encoding

    When I encode videos with handbrake using either the strict or loose anamorphic setting the playback on my T.V. (LG 47LW5700) is the original source size. Example: A video source might be 720x576, when I choose the Strict setting it says the display size will be 1024x546 - which it is if I play it with VLC, but if I try to stream it to my TV from my NAS or play it from a USB drive the original source size is displayed. Is this an issue with my TV or is there some setting in Handbrake I need to enable/disable to get it to playback at the larger display size. I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer :)

    Hi; Got a silly question here but.... I have made a drum loop for a song and when i try to record it in fruity loops studio, i select the driver and all i get is feed back through my laptop ( kinda like a loud screeching sound ).yeah sure its a driver problem i know. How can i just directly record whats playing on my laptop , with fruity loops playing the loop ? its going to be around 3 mins long and i want to record it directly from my laptop as an .mp3 so i can use it as a backing track. I'm really not that bothered about doing it in fruity loops just need a quick and easy solution Many thanks.

    Hello All, I have a Humax HDR-FOX T2 Freeview Recorder that I use to record my favourite programmes. I am wanting to convert some onto DVDs as the Hard Drive is getting full. I am having difficultly doing this for programmes that was recorded of the HD channels. Does anyone know of any software that will do this?

  12. Recoding MKV from 1080p to 720p in Handbrake

    I'm having some trouble converting some 1080p mkv files into 720p using Handbrake. I managed to get one of them to recode in about 15 minutes, and the file comes out at just under 2GB (it's about 2 hours long), but now I can't replicate this with any other 1080p files - they seem to take hours to recode and then don't play in Media Player Classic. Does anyone have any recommendations for settings in Handbrake? How long should it take to recode 2 hours of footage with a Core i5 2500K CPU?

    Might I know what is the avg size of a alac music file? I tried to convert from flac to ALAC, and the ALAC is slightly better than flac...zzz I thought ALAC is for saving space and preserving quality?

  14. Removing generator from audio

    At the weekend I recorded some stuff at airsoft, I recorded the game briefings in the safe zone without thinking about that humming sound in the background. A lovely petrol generator engine. The sound from it has completely drowned out any voices etc. What would be the best method at trying to remove it. Or at least make it a little quieter and bring out the voices?

    I think this is the right forum. I am going to be purchasing my first MIDI controller, which I plan on using with Ableton. I have narrowed it down to 2: -Akai Pro MPK mini -M-Audio Oxygen 25 The Akai I like because of the drum pads, but M-Audio is known for having quality and just looks better cosmetically. Thoughts and advice are appreciated.

  18. Adding text in video - Adobe Premiere Pro

    I'm doing a project for my advertising class am using Premiere Pro for the editing. I was able to figure out how to stitch together the video, but the two things I can't seem to figure out are: 1. Adding "black" spots for text. We want to do this silent film style and between scenes have a 3-4 second frame that is just black with text. 2. At the end, the picture blurs out, we want to put our logo over it. How can we achieve this?

    Hey guys, in my 3rd year of college as a Mass Media major. We are getting into more editing and hands on classes; this first class the teacher stresses Adobe Premiere. "I you know Premiere you can do AVID, final cut etc". Might have something to do with the fact that in this specific lab we're on Windows Machines with the CS5 suite installed. But as a student going into the field in the near future (hopefully) I am curious about differences in the software. Adobe Premiere? AVID? Final Cut / Studio ... many more I'm sure I haven't heard of. What is most prominent in the field? What do you find easiest / most feature-rich?

    Hi guys, I've been asked by a friend to make him an intro for his Youtube channel that he uses to upload videos of him playing World of Warcraft. He saw the one I use on my video's and asked me if I could create him one too.     Hi guys, I've launched a website recently and am new to it - I always want to keep videos on it that load quickly and are also HD quality How can I do this? I'm using Premiere Pro to do most of my video conversions but don't know which settings to use to make sure it always comes out right.     Hey guys, very long time, no post. I was wondering if anyone can help me make a vector graphic from a small snippet of logo I have. Took me a long time to find the font alone, now I have no idea/knowledge of how to take the 'wave' and make a vector out of it. Its frustrating, I know what I have, want, and somewhat what needs to be done, but I cant do it. I've been using PS CS4, but dont even know if that's the right program.   25. Resolution Queries

    So, I have a few videos where I don't understand whta is stopping the resolution getting bigger as I increase the player size. I open this video in VLC player and when double clicking on it (full screen), then I get a large black border around the video. It's almost like the video has an upper limit to it's resolution, yet many, many other videos will stretch as far as the screen resolution. Is there anything I can do? Even stranger is I can't test it out on this computer as Windows Media player doesn't want to play MKV files anymore, while the PC in the next room will play them happily :s Thanks
