Twitter tested a search bar within its Direct Message feature back in 2019, addressing a long-time problem for anyone who wanted to be able to look for a specific sender. The functionality has since been launched for everyone on iOS and the web, letting them search through their private messages.
Today, the micro-blogging site announced that the DM search bar is rolling out on Android. Although it's a long time coming, the feature's expansion to Google's operating system brings with it an “improved version” of the existing capability. This means that you can look for certain content in addition to the ability to search for specific senders. And you can even search for these topics in your old messages, not just your recent conversations.

The improved capability will be available later this year. It's a welcome update that should solve the difficulty with finding months-old or years-old messages by having to sift through all of your DMs, as was the case before.
Today's announcement marks the latest update to Twitter's DM feature. Last year, the service introduced a new DM experience that's docked at the bottom right of your screen on the web. The new interface allows you to send and receive DMs without having to switch between your timeline and the Messages tab.
