Images of a new G10 phone from Huawei leaked onto the internet yesterday, prompting speculation that the Chinese manufacturer would be continuing to spread out its variety of smartphone offerings instead of adding to its flagship Mate 10 series launching on October 16. However, it looks like the G10 is actually a Lite version of the Mate 10 that will be launching alongside the others in the line.
Although it costs less than the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, the Mate 10 Lite is anything but a lightweight. According to VentureBeat, a source has revealed that the phone will have the previously rumored 5.9-inch screen, 4GB of RAM, a 3,340 mAh battery, and an eight-core Kirin 659 2.36GHz system-on-chip. However, it won't have Nougat 7.1, but will ship with the latest Android Oreo OS.
Its 2:1 aspect ratio is in FHD+ 1080 x 2160 resolution. That is higher than the Mate 10, and it is showcased in a full-metal case normally reserved for 5.5-inch displays. Huawei is calling the model its first FullView-equipped smartphone, but it's also the first with a quad camera (two on front and two on the back). Both sets of cameras have 16 and 13 megapixel high-resolution sensors, along with a two-megapixel secondary component.
The name discrepancy appears to be from the G10 (or Maimang 6) being the China-only version of the Mate 10 Lite. The new smartphone, available in blue, black and gold, is scheduled to debut in Munich with the other Mate 10 variants, but will not ship until the following month. The price will be €379 or $455.
