Battle Princess Madelyn invokes retro classic Ghouls ‘n Ghosts and is headed to Kickstarter

Battle Princess Madelyn (BPM) was conceived nearly two years ago and was an idea that was spearheaded by a then four-year-old Madelyn. Who is Madelyn, you ask? She is the daughter of Christopher Obritsch, who is the Creative Director/CEO of Causal Bit Games. But she is more than just a daughter; she is also a prominent component of the studio as the "Boss of Everything, Art director of Christopher, Master of all".

While the duo casually played through a ritual level of Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, Madelyn suggested that she wanted to be in the game. Obritsch would let her know that she couldn't be in Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, but that something new could be created just for her. She would reply with “but girls can’t be knights, daddy... only boys…” and at which point he responded with “pshh… what color do you want your armor to be?” This is when Causal Bit Games would begin work on BPM.

So what kind of game is BPM? It follows the story of a young knight in training accompanied by her ghostly dog Fritzy that is tasked with saving her kingdom and family from an evil wizard. As you can probably tell from the screenshots and trailer, the side-scrolling platform game is reminiscent of Ghouls ‘n Ghosts. Although there is currently a pre-alpha build, which can be downloaded for free, the firm needs some help getting it out to market with the promise of offering it on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and even the Nintendo Switch.

Causal Bit Games has started a Kickstarter campaign that has a little under a month remaining and has been funded halfway. There are various tiers of rewards that start with a digital copy of not only BPM but the studio's other project, Insanity's Blade. Battle Princess Madelyn is expected to arrive in February of 2018.
