HTC's new Windows Phones to be called 8X, 8S and 8V?

So, HTC plans to “go big” with Windows Phone 8, as you may have read here on Neowin earlier today. Undeterred by Samsung’s stylish new ATIV S, and the striking new Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 that Nokia announced this week, HTC is renewing its commitment to the Windows Phone platform, after seeing several consecutive quarters of lacklustre financial results from its Android-first strategy.

It’s widely expected that HTC will unveil its new Windows Phone 8 handsets at an event in New York on September 19, but details are continuing to emerge ahead of that event about the devices that will be announced.

Images have recently surfaced, purporting to show basic renders of the ‘Accord’, the mid-range model of three devices believed to be en route. Pocket-lint claims that a “trusted source” has revealed to them that the final names of two of these handsets will be the 8X and 8S; drawing parallels with the naming conventions established with HTC’s ‘One’ range of Android devices, they extrapolate that the third handset will be known as the 8V.

Assuming that earlier reports on the devices are also correct - and amending those details with more recent updates where available - we’re expecting HTC’s new Windows Phone range to look something like this:

HTC 8X

  • 4.7" HD Super LCD 2 display
  • 8MP cam
  • Dual-core Snapdragon S4
  • NFC
  • 42Mbps HSPA+

HTC 8S

  • 4.3" HD Super LCD 2 display
  • 8MP cam
  • 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 (MSM8960)
  • 8GB or 16GB + microSD
  • 1GB RAM
  • NFC
  • 42Mbps HSPA+

HTC 8V

  • 4.0" WVGA display
  • 5MP cam
  • Dual-core Snapdragon S4 (MSM8227)
  • 512MB RAM
  • 14.4Mbps HSPA
