Intel to drop Rambus?

It appears that what was a nice idea is now really going to pot!

"Intel is going to drop its long time partner Rambus, the company who makes RDRAM chips. Intel will stop making any motherboards with RDRAM useage and will only use DDR. Although RDRAM is now dropped by Intel they will keep on using RDRAM in the i850 chipsets till 2005."

Does this mean a major rethink in the pentium 4/ future strategy?
